Econ & Haas, good idea?

Does it make sense to get simultaneous degrees in economics and business administration? I like the mathematical aspect of economics but also interested in the more business oriented classes like marketing, accounting, and finance.

Do it if you are genuinely interested. Don’t do it just to impress employers/grad or professional schools because it won’t.

Perhaps some business majors can say whether business courses have space for non-majors these days. If so, then perhaps you can do economics (possibly with a second major or minor in math or statistics) while also taking selected business courses of interest (note that the economics department does have finance courses – 136 and 138).

What mathematical aspect of Econ specifically? The word “marginal”? If you’re interested in business and want a more quant experience in college,Aubrey you should consider doubling in Econ/math or /stats, or biz/math or /stats. Or whatever you’re really interested in or passionate about. Biz/Econ is only ~5 or so classes extra, so… Meh. But tons of people do it for the convenience/out of the high school mentality, not necessarily for the right reasons demoz mentions.

Alternatively, there’s no shame in having “related coursework” and just take math-friendly courses to complement your biz major
