Econ Major, What Should I Minor In?

I'm currently a freshman at Penn State and I'm planning on receiving a bachelor of science in economics, which is offered through the College of the Liberal Arts. I have enough time to take up to two minors and still graduate in four years.

Just for some background on what I hope to do. I hope to get a job in a banking or finance related field, and after undergrad and some work experience pursue an MBA.

Here are my possible minors:
Business and the Liberal Arts
Statistics
Mathematics
Engineering Leadership Development
Engineering Entrepreneurship

(note: The two engineering minors are offered through the engineering college, but are not specifically about engineering, just about leadership and entrepreneurship in general. Also, the Business and the Liberal Arts is a business minor offered through the College of the Liberal Arts, since the business school minors here are only open to students with business majors, and it requires basic accounting and finance classes as well as some electives.)

All of those need around 12-14 credits outside of what is already required for my major. Any two will fit, but definitely not a third. Also, if you can think of any other worthwhile minors, let me know.

Thanks for the help.

OK, three of the minors you listed are business-related, and two are quantitative.
As you’re planning to get an MBA, ordinarily I’d say skip the business-related ones since you’ll pick that up in your MBA program. However, since you plan to work a few years before going to an MBA program, a business-related minor might enhance your immediate job prospects. A quantitative minor also might improve your immediate job prospects as well as strengthening your MBA application (as many MBAs programs are quite quantitative). So, do the Business & Liberal Arts minor to get some skills that will improve employability over just an Econ major, and do the Math minor to improve employability and prep for an MBA program.
Other possible minors would be in the computer or information systems area. If you have an interest in developing some expertise in a particular market or industry where you could apply your eventual financial expertise, consider a minor in Ag Ec, or Health Policy or Energy/Environmental/Mineral Ec. I particularly like the energy field because it cuts across some many current and emerging areas of the economy. Specializing in such an area could enhance your value in certain industries. Same thing with Ag Ec—commodity futures trading, etc.

Or, you could just do one of your minors in a totally unrelated area (history, political science, etc), just because it interests you.

I am sorry that this is not a reply for your question
