I am a prospective Music and Economics double major at Holy Cross with a few questions:

Is it hard to get accepted into both these majors simultaneously?

How much of a difficult path is this to take at Holy Cross?

Will this path be helpful for a career in music?

What is the music scene like for student bands (both official an unofficial) on campus and in the surrounding area?

I've posted this on a couple of college forums by now hoping to compare schools to each other based on what people respond to my post with. Thanks for the help.

What’s great about our liberal arts curriculum is that it allows students to double major in any two areas they want, no matter how different. It’s a challenge for any double major simply due to finding space in their schedule to accomplish the double major AND their distribution requirements, but it is possible with proper planning. If you know ahead of time you want to do it, you should be in good shape.

The music major is designed to educate students in the fine details of music (music theory, performance, as well as history). You will get a well-rounded instruction in all facets of music, and the electives within the major allow you to focus where you want to study.

On campus, we have something called the 10 Spot on Tuesday and Friday nights in the Student Center, where student musicians can perform. It’s a pretty cool scene, usually for the more instrumental/band type of performer. We also offer a capella groups, chorales, and multiple theater options if you are looking for that. In terms of off-campus venues for student performers, I can’t speak much to that. Worcester has a great yet unheralded arts scene, and with 10 other colleges and universities in Worcester, there have to be some locations where up-and-coming musicians go to perform for a live crowd.

Hope this helps!
