ECONOMICS major transfer from pasadena city college to UCLA

currently i have a 3.79 gpa
in honor society
will finish prereq. and 64 units after spring 2009
work
low income (indep.)
What are the chances of getting accepted, transfering as Economics major?
and what if i'm missing 1 prereq course (calculus 2)?

average gpa for econ transfer admits was 3.82 (for both econ and busecon), so you should be okay there.

you should definitely take that 2nd calculus course, though... it's required

not really, cause 3.82 is including those are certified by TAP (their average GPA are lower than in general). So I think average admited for student without TAP would be above 3.82. I can't tell exactly. Just try your best in your p/s and good luck.

Source? Why would you think that TAP applicants have lesser stats? PROVIDE A SOURCE!

Average GPA for admitted transfers into economics and business econ. was 3.82.

Source: UCLA Undergrad Admissions: Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2008

No official source, but I knew 2 person only had 3.5x with TAP and got accepted with no significant Ecs or family background. I don't mean TAP admitted students have low GPA; I just argue that some students with low GPA and certified by TAP will be accepted and pull the average GPA of the pool down. Isn't TAP one of the concern for people when u ask " what is my chance ....?"

I have similar statistics. i have a 3.75 GPA majoring in Econ and am Tap certified. My ECs includes and internship with the UN. And i went to NYU for a bit and earned a 4.0 over there. Taking an Econ class over there also. My major concentrated GPA is a 3.66 with a 5 in Calc BC AP. Chances?

My current GPA is 3.54 as a Econ major, and I applied to a cuple of UCs.and I have already admitted from UCSD and UCSB.

Here is a thing. I took many high level science classes which are only required for bio or chem major students, and I got one C and 2 Bs in these classes. Since I was just interested in science classes for my goal.

So, do you think I still have a chance to get admitted from UCB and UCLA?

lol, u pulled out a 5 months old thread!
What is ur Econ major requirement GPA? that play a pretty big rule in admission. They also look at ur grade trend, EC and PS. the chance is pretty slight for 3.54 GPA, but it doesn’t mean u can’t make it with effort, the first thing I would recommand u to do now is try to rise ur gpa in spring and summer. good luck

The only thing is that they won’t see his grades in spring and summer because they would have issued acceptances by that time. He already applied this year :(.

dragon is right. people who is been TAPed are admit even with lower GPA
