Time for common apps. I have a few questions about the activities and academic honors section. I won a state competition and I was wondering if something like that goes under the activities section or the academic honors section? or can I put it down in both?

Also, I plan on competing again my senior year, but it's in the spring, after apps. Can I put "12" in the section that says Grade level in which you participate?

what sort of competition was it? You don’t want to put it in both sections. But you didn’t say what you won exactly so we can’t tell you where to list it. You should not be listing second semester senior year activities and achievements at this point.

one of them was an econ contest, in which a team of four students composed an essay analyzing market/economic movement/events during a ten week period and then creating a presentation that analyzed macroeconomic indicators and included a economic forecast. It was similar to a small research project. We presented at the LA federal reserve bank. the contest is recognized by the national association for business economics and sponsored by the california council on economic education.

also got second place at the california state economics challenge.

I would say those are activities rather than academic honors but it’s a close call and you could really probably go either way depending on where you have the most room on your app.

I would look at it this way: Is there a club associated with this competition? Do you have weekly / monthly meetings, study sessions etc.? If yes, it’s an activity and you can list your 1st place in the honor earned, academic letters received… column on the activities chart. Otherwise, I would put it under the academic honors.

well, it was during a ten week period that we worked on this plus some class time. I’m just really confused as to where to put it. Would this fall under the “awards” section of many of the chance threads i’ve seen? and would those go under academic honors?

Sounds like it can go to either section, but looking at your chance thread, I would put it under the honors, since you have enough activities and short on awards.
