They asked for my son’s.

I wish they had an online portal. My letter hasn’t arrived yet, and I wanted to know if I should start writing my supplements for some of the other colleges this weekend in case of rejection. It’s very sad that we have to wait this long to see if we got accepted or not. Not to mention that I wanted to see how hard I should study for my finals for this upcoming week. Oh well…

@classof2018app, I feel exactly the same way. I’m so unmotivated to study for finals right now. All I’m doing is checking this forum 24/7 which is such a waste of my time. So distracted…

omg I thought I was the only one who couldn’t do anything except refresh this forum page all day

I haven’t gotten a letter yet, but I was just wondering (I don’t want to jinx anything) that if we ARE admitted, is it ok if our grades drop a little? not drastically, but I was just wondering this because it would be nice to be able to relax a little. Again, this is only under the slight chance that I am admitted haha.
Any thoughts?

hey guys it might help to talk to your postman (this might be too late because it is sunday)… my mom talked to him and he said that our post office is really bogged down with mail. he said he’d keep a special eye out for it if it comes…

idk…it might help!!!

Yeah my chance my acceptance is pretty slim. I mean, all of my test scores are in the right ranges, but I feel like their applicant pool has been very strong this year due to the Forbes’ ranking. The trouble is that I wanted to ED to Pomona even before the Forbes list came out, and it bugs me that the secret of Pomona is now out to all of the nation :). If I get denied, I am just going be very unmotivated for writing the rest of my college apps honestly. I am also going to email Pomona and tell them to get an online portal :)

my chance of acceptance*
Btw, I don’t think that a B or two in your advanced classes will hurt your chances @seniorhighschool if you get ED admittance. Colleges don’t want to see like a C in your transcript for senior year. Yeah, I have my AP Chemistry and AP calc final tomorrow, and I haven’t even studied because of stressing for Pomona. I will probably start studying in about 10 minutes lol

The post office is probably bogged down because of all the holiday cards and the bad weather :)

Anyone from the East Coast should post whether or not they hear back tomorrow!!! I’m in NY waiting. :(

In the acceptance/rejection letters did they say how many applied? And how many got rejected?? Thanks in advance

@Claire123098 this forum has over 10,000 views. Since it’s a very specific forum in which only Pomona ED applicants use, I believe that most people have not received their letters (otherwise, we would see a lot more posts on rejection/acceptance). In the past posts, only about 6 or 7 people have said that they have received acceptances. Last year, 120 students got in with ED. Don’t worry. Most people have not received their letters yet

I’m really worried this weather is going to delay the mail until Tuesday or Wednesday I really hope we get them tomorrow!

@classof2018app: Is it 120 students for ED 1 and 2 combined??

They said in the letter that it was “a record pool of highly talented and well qualified applicants.” There was nothing in the letter about specific numbers.

they contacted my son’s counselor for grades and questions about course selection. Glad that they did as they had misinterpreted a course and thought he wasn’t taking a science class this year.

Well you guys are probably some of the very few who have received letters since no one else has posted anything. Consider yourself lucky

I am also disappointed at Pomona for saying that they will notify us on December 15th while failing to do so. They should stick to their word and not leave us hanging. It is a very stressful time of year for seniors. We have so little time to study for our finals and finish our supplements if we get rejected, and they have the audacity to keep some of us informed while failing to update others on their statuses. It’s 2013. Get an online portal

has anyone received their emails yet?

Classof2018, it is your responsibility to prepare a back-up option in any case- waiting for Pomona’s response is your fault, not theirs. With less than a few weeks to go in any case- whether you receive your notification next week or whether you received it last week- doesn’t change that you do need to prepare well in advance for other options.

As for why Pomona does not use an online system, it’s because they don’t want to produce any technical errors using a website. Furthermore, they want the admitted students to see their admit package then and there, not as a preclude to what is coming in the email. Pomona does email international students because it knows it’ll take them a while to get their post.

I understand that you are anxious but Pomona did mail them out a few days ago (see the picture on Facebook) in anticipation of the said mailing day, so if you want to complain then complain to the post office.

For those of you who are admitted, many congratulations to you. This year was the most selective year by far and you should be very proud of yourself for getting in. I have sources saying the numbers went up by 40% this year- assuming the rate for last year, this means a 15.5-15.6% ED1 acceptance rate.

@nostalgicwisdom What is the usual percentage of athletes that Pomona takes out of the ED round? It seems like many spots go to the athletes, and well I am not really a serious one. As for the earlier comment, I have done most of my apps, but not polished them. I am just very anxious. It seems like nearly all the colleges have adopted the electronic portal option instead of the traditional mail, which seems to be the better choice due to weather problems that the East Coast is currently facing.
