I don’t know about how athletes are accepted ED1. I’m guessing the rate would be a little higher since they are recruited for, but when you have such a low ED1 rate along with other highly sought students applying (legacies, URMs, low income QuestBridge students), I’m thinking that the difference wouldn’t be much higher.

I understand your concern. If you want to put in a word to admissions, I would encourage you to do so. Do know, however, that Pomona has slowly been moving into a more virtual interface. Applications are no longer read through paper, and with a website renovation in the works next year I’m guessing they will do something to make receiving notifications easier.

Thank you for informing me nostalgicwisdom. My chances are slim actually. I am not a serious athlete, and the only hook I have (I don’t know if it’s a hook or not actually) is that I came to the US in 7th grade without being able to speak English. My test scores are average (nothing spectacular) and straight A’s, which seems to be the norm these days for tier 1 admissions. My family’s income is about 65,000, and so I am not going to be a huge donor either. I am sort of like the average joe for all the colleges that I am applying to, if that makes any sense :)

Simply to be fair to all applicants, wherever they are located, Pomona should communicate decisions that can be received simultaneously. A portal or email process seems eminently reasonable in this day and age.

@Cherryball, I would think that one reason Pomona doesn’t use portal or email system is to avoid any possible technical errors?
I came across this article, about how colleges have sent out wrong acceptance letters

Now I’m thankful that Pomona uses the mailing system, which should decrease the chance of any automated computer problems. (Although I suppose there is still a chance for error. So now I’m paranoid that my acceptance letter was fake :/)

So apparently, some of the letters were accidentally sent to the east coast, and now, they have to wait to get them back, which explains why a lot of people haven’t received their letters yet. Also, both acceptances and rejections get sent priority mail so the timing shouldn’t make a difference.

@randythenoob, I believe you can send private messages after you hit 15 posts on CC, so once we get there, I’ll just PM you my name and we can be friends :)

oh that’s so awkward now i feel like we have to spam the forum just so we can talk to each other
someone should make a thread just for posting so you can get your 15
