I was wondering if there was any benefit in applying for ED2? The dates to send everything in is the same as RD. What's the benefit of applying? How much earlier than RD do you find out if your in? And are your chances better if you apply ED2 than just RD? NYU is my top choice but is ED2 really worth it? I would have applied ED1 but it's too late now.

It was just introduced this year so the actual statistics are not out yet but the percentage SHOULD be higher because you are committing yourself to the school if you get in.

You DO get your results earlier: February 15th

Well it would be nice to hear by February! Obviously, no matter what it’s not going to be easy to get into NYU but do you think getting in would be a bit easier than RD?

ed 2 is still early decision so you have a slightly better chance than regular decision, but its not that big, maybe like 8%greater chance of getting in.

Here’s what I’ve heard from the admissions officers:

ED2 applicants are notified by February 15, as opposed to the standard April 1 for RD applicants.

ED2 shows you’re committed to NYU, so the adcoms at least know you’re more interested than the RD candidates. Yes, this gives you a slight advantage.

The general acceptance rates are around 28% for RD and 33% for ED1. I don’t have the statistics for ED2, but I’m guessing it falls around 30%.

The reason behind ED2 is that NYU knows that many students want to do ED1 but don’t have their applications ready by November 1. This gives them a bit of extra time while still getting most of the same benefits as ED1 applicants. Additionally, they want to provide an ED option for students who are rejected from their first-choice ED schools.

So, if your heart is set on NYU, apply ED2. :)
