@Nivlac57 it looks like your son is showing the demonstrated interest. The interview will definitely help.
What ECs does he have? Any potential majors in mind and what are his grades/standardized test scores?

I will also be ED’ing to WashU. The hype is real guys, and time is flying.
Just curious, but isn’t ED generally considered the ultimate form of interest?
My son did ED several years ago at WashU (accepted and attended) and though he did visit he did not have contact other than that.
Just wondering about the necessity to contact reps, interview, and attend local info sessions when one is already interested and going ED.
dragonmom3… I was thinking the same thing. Seems like only RD applicants would need to go out of their way to show interest. ED shows this is the school you intend to go to id admitted
I have a question concerning application process; do more than one SAT 2 scores and teacher recommendations have a chance to sway decisions?
Hey guys! Just thought I’d jump in here. I’m a freshman BME major at WashU. If you have any questions about the school, feel free to @ me, or DM me if it’s more of a personal question. Generally it’s a better idea to post questions publicly, though, because chances are you’re not the only one with that question, and I’m not the only one with the answer!
@edsmart WashU neither requires nor recommends SAT 2. Their policy on secondary test scores is that if it helps your app, they’ll consider them, and it it doesn’t, they won’t.
Exactly how many more teacher recommendations are you talking about? I personally did three; two for the general common app, and one from my engineering teacher that was requested on my scholarship application. Be sure to look ahead at the scholarship apps because a few of them would like you to have a teacher recommendation submitted through the common app that applies to their program. That said, don’t send a ton of recs; admissions will read all of them, and they will not be happy readers after the sixth letter that basically says the same thing about you. Pick one or two teachers that know you well and can speak to your character inside and outside of school, and trust them to convey your true nature. You’re not the first student to ask them for a recommendation; they’ve got this.
How do most students get to and from WashU? Drive or fly? Do the dorms close during breaks?
@prodesse, I imagine many oos students will fly to wash u, and use shuttle bus or something like that. I don’t think so for the dorm question.
@prodesse It really depends. I’m from Ohio; I personally drove for move-in and I fly home to and from breaks. Dorms don’t close during fall break and thanksgiving; I don’t know about winter break.
Can we apply EA to other schools while applying to Wash u ED, like u Chicago for instance?
Yes, you can, as long as you are not applying to anywhere else as a binding ED. And if you are admitted to WashU, you have to withdraw the other applications.
Thank you
@edsmart, actually you need to check the EA rules for other schools. For example, Notre Dame prohibits you from applying to another school ED if you apply to ND EA.
@edsmart , Georgetown has a policy like Notre Dame’s. You can apply Early Action to Georgetown, but then you can’t apply ED anywhere else. (So it’s like a fake Early Action in my opinion!).
Earlier Question Re: Getting Into and Out of St. Louis –
Transportation to and from WashU is quite easy. Airport has frequent flights (Southwest, United and American) to both coasts and points in between. Light rail has two stops on campus and takes you to the airport. Amtrak connects to Chicago. Enterprise Rental has a program for students that allows you to rent a car by the hour – very reasonable! Uber and Lyft are very prolific.
Hi! Im applying ED to Washu and I just found out I was nominated by two separate people( counselor and department head) for the danforth scholarship. Will this help my admission chances? If so, will the admissions committee see it or should I include it in additional info?
@wyo002 , my daughter was also nominated. Curious if the department head who nominated you is from your high school?
I do not know if admissions will know who was nominated. They may put that info. into your electronic file. I don’t know. I don’t think it would hurt to mention it in the extra information section of the Common Application. Best of luck.
Danforth nominations are done by the high school, usually by the counselor. It’s not necessarily an indicator of acceptance chances, but it will at least mean that you are on the radar.
Hello all!
My DD is totally in love with Wash U after our visit last fall as well as attending the PNP program this summer. She will be applying ED. My question is that her school counselor is recommending her to apply for the Danforth scholarship - has anyone who applied ED ever received one of their merit based scholarship? She has fairly strong test scores, grades, and EC but I figured since they won’t need to “woo” her from other schools, she won’t stand a chance at their merit scholarships!
