@Womama From what I’ve seen, WashU engineers have no problem getting the employment they seek. I have a friend who interned with NASA after his freshman year and is interning with Google this upcoming summer. I know others who are getting accepted into the grad schools of their dreams. In my intro to BME class, they presented material suggesting that virtually everyone who wants an engineering job has been able to secure one. I have no concern about being able to find a job upon graduation. That said, I’m not sure I would be concerned at a quality engineering state school, either. Engineering is a growing field with lots of jobs.
In addition most of the construction on campus is focusing on the Engineering facilities.
@srivapau Thank you so much for the advice! Do you think i should start emailing washu from now? Also, in what form should I notify them about my changes or updates? (for example, should I attach my updated resume or so? or just write it in the email?)
Hi Everyone, Happy New 2018 to you! Just chiming in. My D completed and submitted her Danforth Scholarship application and also the one for the University Scholars in Medicine one as well. While they are extremely competitive (and she was deferred ED ), I am hopeful they give the school/committees a lot more information about her. I really liked her essays. I wonder if admissions will see any of them or if they are only seen by the scholarship committees? She is doing all she can do, and if she’s not eventually admitted, nothing to feel too badly about. There is satisfaction from knowing you’ve tried your best.Hope you all are well.
Since the deadline is coming up for the merit scholarships, I was wondering if anyone knows when Wash U notifies it’s finalists. March sometime?
@Winky1 Last year I was notified by phone call the evening of February 28, and results were posted on the portal the evening of March 1.
Thank you @JemmaSimmons . I hope all is well with you and your studies! Happy New 2018 to you.
Thank you! Happy New Year to you, too. I’m excited to start the new semester! @Winky1
Has anyone who was accepted ED received their welcome package yet? If not, does anyone know when they are supposed to come?
My son has only received the large envelope with letter and stickers.
My D has also only received the stickers that came with the acceptance letter.
@rhymetime As someone who will be reliant on financial aid, I would not construe the first offer as the final offer. If you are comfortable, and if you feel certain that WashU is your first choice, I suggest telling them what your bottom dollar figure is, and seeing if they can meet you there.
Does anyone know what the dates for the SOAR program were last year? I’m assuming they’d be around the same dates. Just wanted to know for summer vacation planning!
SOAR is in July if I remember correctly.
Just checked again and SOAR was in June of last year. I think it was 3 different sessions starting first weekend of June.
Do we know when they will announce the SOAR dates for this year? The dates listed on the website are from last year and we are also trying to plan our summer schedule.
Dates will be announced 3/1 according to the First Year Center:

@Hamurtle - Thank you!!
SOAR isn’t absolutely necessary for students unless they want to get a head start in meeting their future classmates/4 year academic advisors.
My son didn’t attend last year and didn’t meet his 4 year advisor until the first week of school, but his advisor was extremely proactive when it came to email replies and phone calls. His advisor usually replies to all emails within an hour.
I have seen posts on the WashU parents FB groups about some students not being able to get a reply from their advisors, but that seems to be an exception.
Did I miss something? Is there a 2022 Parents FB page?
