Is it true that one has a better chance of being accepted if they apply through ED/are in state (Fairfax County)? Obviously the profile of the student is important, but would I have an advantage if I do ED rather than RD?
Yes. According to http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg02_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=1593 , W&M’s ED acceptance rate is 50% (vs 34% for RD), and W&M gives preference to in-state students since it is a state school. Just make sure you don’t apply ED unless W&M is definitely your first choice, since ED contracts are binding.
