yikes.
what does this mean for % admitted you think?

I think it could be SLIGHTLY lowered, but I'm guessing it's mostly unchanged. Or at least I'm hoping. I just read an article about it and apparently it's because of FinAid policies getting better, so people are less scared to apply ED. I know that I'm probably going to be applying EDII, despite HUGE neediness for FinAid.

Other than the obvious - the date - is there a difference between EDI and EDII?

Chi - Nope, not really. Other than the dates, it's the same, I do believe.
You're from Minnesota. =] My extended family lives in Edina/Plymouth.

Thanks, floee. My d applied, but regular decision. What is your connection (if any) with Hamilton?

You're right, I'm from Minnesota. Heading to Edina this evening to play cards!

Oh, floee, never mind - just spotted your other thread. Now I know your connection! Hamiltonite-in-waiting.

Hamiltonite. Fancy.
If your D wants to move it to EDII, she still can until Jan 23rd.
Why does everyone in Minnesota like cards so much? All my family does is play hearts for hours. xD

I'm waiting to hear the answer to your question re: financial aid!

cards? I don't know.... it's an indoor activity when there is snow on the ground. Like today. But my game is sheepshead.

I am too. But, I read on the site that they're probably increasing the Financial Aid budget, and they've pledged to fulfill everyone's financial need. I am excited. Hopefully. xD

Just to update this - Monica Inzer was quoted in the New York Times article saying that reg. decision is down 16%, and she expects it to be 10-15% down in the end. She said that the percent admitted might go up.

The article > http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/22/education/22college.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1&em

floee: reg decision applications or regular decision acceptances???

and

floee, what did you mean by "she can move it up until January 23rd???"

i want to do EDII but feared i had missed the deadline and settled for RD

never mind lol

thats awesome! im sending in my letter monday! lol

If I understand that article correctly, while ED rate went up, the overall admittance rate will go up as well, which means that a proportional number of students will be accepted RD.

RTHowe91 - I'm glad I opened your eyes to that little loophole. Goodluck! The countdown to Feb 15 has begun.. 43 days!

haha idk now

im too nervous and indecisive to make such a binding decision like that!!!

but my only other top school i would love to go to is Georgetown and ive already been deffered so i think.....

what the hell ill do it!

and, to the person two posts above me....proportional to what? Monica Inzer says the acceptance rate will go up slightly, but does that mean that ED will be lower and RD will be higher??? or should i just assume they will be about equal?

In my opinion, EDII will probably go up because of the lack of RD apps. RD acceptances might very well stay the same or go up very slightly.
ED had a lot of deferrals from what I can gauge because of the increase. They didn't know if it was increased interest or if there would be a lack of RD applicants. Now they know, so they'll probably admit more people committed to the school.

That's just my opinion/hope, of course. I'm applying EDII to Hamilton.

Ummm I have no idea! I think that since ED rate went up, general acceptance rate will go up slightly, which means that RD will go up slightly also. I don't know if that makes sense. I don't know how the whole admission process works...

haha its alright....ok i think im pretty set on changing my app to EDII

ohh so worried but i fee like its the right thing to do =
