If I am applying early decision this fall to GWU do i need to be worried about not receiving scholarships and aid. I have heard you do not get as much money if you apply ED. I will also not be submitting test scores. Finally does anyone know when they tell you how much money they are giving you?
It’s possible it may affect your aid. Here is a somewhat dated article about GWU being need aware:
https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2013/10/22/george-washington-u-admits-it-incorrectly-told-applicants-it-was-need-blind
If you apply ED you will get your aid offer at about the same time. If you can’t afford it you can decline the admission and aid offer. However, if you think that might be the case I recommend you apply RD so you can compare offers from other colleges.
So if i cannot afford it I tell them that and just apply to other schools regular decision?
Maybe I’m missing it…but I see nothing that says GWU guarantees to meet full need for all accepted students.
Hope someone has THAT answer,
It also looks like GWU has not updated its website for 2017-2018 college applicants.
I have to ask…why are you applying ED to this extremely expensive college? If finances are a significant consideration, you might want to rethink this. If you get accepted, you will have a very small window of time to either accept or decline the offer…and aid that will come with it.
Here is the rub…that ONE offer from GWU might be fabulous…but then again…it might not be. You will never know, because you will have NO other financial aid offers/net costs with which to compare it.
GWU is my dream school, and im pretty sure i can get accepted. I am applying ED because I have a significant better chance of getting in ED then regular.
Your dream will turn into a nightmare if it is unaffordable.
Getting accepted ED will do you NO GOOD without sufficient financial aid.
I would urge you to think very carefully about applying ED given what sounds like significant financial need.
Have you run the net orice calculator for GWU?
not yet but i plan too. I am just looking to get the price down to 40-45 grand a year.
Are you saying you have $40k to $45k over year to pay for college? If so, you are looking for about $30,000 in aid from GWU.
Does your family qualify for need based aid? I’m guessing you are not in the top %age of applicants because you feel you won’t get acceoted unless you apply ED. That would mean that merit aid would be unlikely.
Is it that your family can’t afford more than $45,000 a. Year…or is it that they don’t want to pay more?
You should run the net orice calculator…ASAP…because this school might not be affordable. It is one of THE most expensive colleges with costs exceeding $70,000 a year.
According to other threads, you want to major in political science or international relations. These majors can be found at plenty of other colleges. PLENTY. And I will bet there is even a public university in your state that offers these majors…and are within that $45,000 a year price point.
So my EC are outstanding, i will graduate with 9 college classes, a 720 on history subject test, 5 on gov, 5 on APUSH, 3 on English. i am president of honor society, VP of class, VP of Future business leaders of America, Captain of varsity ice hockey team, editor of school newspaper, on the principal advisory committee, i have a congressional internship with letter of rec from congressman and I have an assemblyman internship. I have over 100 hours of community service a year, and my GPA is a 97 and im in top 10 percent of my class. My biggest weakness is i do not do well on SAT or ACT and will not be submitting them. I want to go to GWU because the Elliot school of international relations is one of the best in the country.
How bad is bad on your ACT or SAT?
If you can afford to attend this school…apply ED.
not what GWU’s averages are. I want to pay 45K a year at GWU
Did you run the net price calculator for GWU yet? If not…what are you waiting for?
i need my mother to give me the specific information but yes i am doing that as soon as possible.
Does GWU admit people without either of these?
Yes, GW is test optional. https://undergraduate.admissions.gwu.edu/test-optional-policy
You keep saying you don’t do well on the SAT or ACT. How “not well” did you do?
I’m only asking because there was a oarent who posted on this forum saying her kid was a bad test taker…but the student’s score was actually fine. Who told you that your score was bad?
