I have very similar SAT scores but a high gpa and good strength in my classes. Penn will accept somone who really wants to be there with average SATS over someone who applies there for the heck of it with a 1600

Here's the link to that NY Times article again - don't know why it didn't work the first time.

I've decided my chances are over before I've even applied. sigh Oh well, I guess the worst thing is rejection...I'll move on :p

Hah, 1050...

HAH

i have a 4.0 unweighted, all honors and 9 AP classes.

im also president, lieutenant governor in many clubs.

i have great recs and essays.

i also went to penn's precollege program and good grades.

but i have a low sat reasoning score of 1830.

how bad are my chances?

btw, lucky me, i had 2 evaluations sent to penn during my 2 interview that happened at the same time because i was late because the secretary gave me the wrong time to meet the alumnis, so both guys interviewed me.

SAT I: M 590 (ouch ouch ouch) V 720 W 800
ACT 31

hopefully the fact that I'm from wisconsin will help a little...but i din't grow up on a farm...sighs

are we doing combinations? (the best section ) , or one sitting?

im pretty screwed..
math: 700
reading: 600
writing: 580

ss: 650
math ic: 620
math ic (2nd time): 750

combination...

blue_mouse....the first time i took the new SAT, i got an 11 essay but like a really ****ty mc b/c i skipped a bubble and didnt fill the rest in accordingly. However, I managed to get an 800 just by reading the newspaper for about 10 mins a day and reading a big article from the wall street journal once a day (it really does help!) Also, I'm in IB HL English, which really stresses writing. My english teachers are pretty much the only reason I got an 800

This thread was supposed to make us feel good about having low scores. Instead, it's so depressing that a "low" score is a 2100. lol

Is a score of

SAT 1:
Math: 680
Verbal: 700
Writing: 650

SAT II:
MATH I:730
Lit: 670
Math II: 650
U.S. Hist: 650

ACT: 30

low?????

slightly low.....SAT 1 and ACT hovering right around the 25th percentile

Ugh....I hope my EC's make up for it

we shouldnt be worrying too much, SAT's are only like 30-35% of the admissions process. Our decision will mainly be based on our transcripts and personal qualities (since Upenn places a big emphasis on personality over SAT scores)

in an interview, Dean Lee Stetson said Standardized test were 40% of an applicants decision.

I've heard 40% from admissions officers before, too. They've also said SATs are worth less than you think they are, and more than you wish they were ;)

30-35%

that's an awful lot...

hehe, let's hope ap's can outweigh sat's and grades

Sorry, but from what I know, AP scores aren't worth that much--I asked on my tour whether I could include all my AP scores even though there's only room for 5, and they said no, which to me implies they're not worth that much :( I'm kind of upset about that, too, but remember, they're looking at the whole person, not just one aspect of that person!

ahh... 5,5,5,5,4... i wish there was only 4 spots, so i could wipe the blemish off from bio... i wish i had studied, but nooo, we had to make macaroni pictures
