EDII Countdown

lylbeachbabee-i'm sorry you got waitlisted.....wait...i think i saw some where that you got a 35 on the ACT? Anyway, if so, then i'm truly suprised. Maybe they didn't get the score? And I don't think the class rank was your weak point. Actually i dunno if you have any weak point.

Status: Accepted
GPA: 3.8 UW/ 4.15 W
SAT: 2220
Class Rank: Top 4%...my school is really competitive so this probably helped a lot
Courses: uhh...a lot of APs and a lot of honors
ECs: mostly science-related: biomedical research was the big one, LASER, Robotics, etc. was a siemens westinghouse regional finalist for two years so maybe that helped. i had some debate/speech experience, various awards here and there, work experience, volunteering, medical related stuff
Hook: not really sure! national merit finalist?

SO happy i got in!! i called them this morning and waited for the answer... which was ADMITTED. though it's still not very real. i hope they didn't make a mistake and accidentally said the wrong thing. err...anyway, yay!!!!

and to everyone who got deferred/rejected/waitlisted: trust me, it's not as bad as it seems. i got deferred from another of my top choices and i felt like i wanted to die. but seriously, you can NOT let this stupid admissions process make you feel like that! life goes on no matter where you go, you will find a perfect fit, college is going to be AMAZING, and you will LOVE IT!!!!!!!

"I visited twice. Once to do the whole visit/tour thing. The second to spend the night in the dorm. I think flying from cali. to Vandy twice really showed a commitment."

Vandy does not track interest like Emory and other schools do; don't short-change yourself man, you got in because you deserved it!

Sorry to disappoint a lot of people but Vandy almost never defers people from ED into the RD pool. If they say no they are not trying to give u false hope. Sorry to all you guys who didn't get in and good luck with all your other schools.

i think i'm the only one who hasnt' heard yet. even i can't believe i resisted the urge to call today. it didnt seem right to call. i'd rather wait for the letter. on that note, if i don't get a letter tomorrow i will be calling.

congrats to all who have already gotten in.

nicole, I wish you the best!

Nicole -- I hope you get in. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate all the support. Only an hour to go.

I JUST GOT IN! OMG. I didn't get the mail. But I just called. I'm afraid I didn't hear them right but I think I did.

They said...."i'm happy to inform you that you've been accepted."

Today is the best day of my life, I can't believe it.

I have been following this thread for a couple of days now, and congrats to all who have been accepted EDII! Vandy is a wonderful place to be.

To all who were deferred and rejected, well, you know the drill. But, it's true. You WILL find a place and you will shine!

To all of those folks who've been deferred/rejected, have faith. If you really think Vandy is the place you should/need to be, you can always try transferring. I was waitlisted RD in 2005 and was absolutely crushed. I enrolled at another school, didn't really like it and will now be attending Vandy next fall!

It's no one's first choice to wait a year or two, but I am so grateful to have had the 2 years to grow. Now I know that when I arrive at Vandy next year I'll be SO appreciative and grateful for being there. Whether it's Vandy or not, you'll arrive at where you need to be eventually. Don't focus on the timeline, just focus on getting somewhere that feels right in the meantime. You just might love it, and if you don't, you still have options for getting to Vanderbilt later.
Mal :)

I echo churchmusicmom's post. Congrat's to those admitted. For those who were not, read the post on this year's admissions stats and know that, for most, your decision was not based on your qualifications, but that the admissions staff must as they say "break a few hearts" to shape the class of 2011 from an abundance of qualified applicants. Good luck to you all wherever you land!

^ Ditto to everything that has been said to those who didn't get in, even though it's hard to accept now, everything will work out.

and congrats nicole!!!!! I can't imagine hearing those words, I'm so excited for you!

Thanks so much! I'm really excited to hear your decision as well. Only around a month away!

I think i started crying on the phone... haha my bad.

congrats nicole i got in too!!! somehow vandy misread my application as RD so they still havent send out my letters yet. I called in today and vandy acknowledged the mistake and told me i got in. apparently vandy read their regular decision apps early... lol well the good thing is i am going to vandy. congrats to everyone who got in.

wow it's kinda scary to know that my fate is already sealed and that the RD decisions are already made.

Not all RD decisions are made by any stretch of the imagination. I understand that the admissions staff is still working in overdrive to review and consider the remaining admissions folders.

Accepted! Wow, it took me 10 minutes to figure out what the letter was trying to say. I was so focused on the no-aid result that I didn't even know that the admission status was in the same letter.

Congratulations to those that were accepted. For those that were denied, I know what it's like (I was deferred last December from another school), but hang in there. You will end up somewhere spectacular. It's where you were meant to be.

how do y'all know they've already made so many RD decisions?

well they marked my application as RD but when I called and confirmed i am EDII they immediately told me i got in. Either vandy already finished the apps or I am fortunately enough to have my "RD" app viewed early
