eFANs are out, for those of you that havent checked your email yet.

<a href="https://www.fao.ucla.edu/myfao%5B/url%5D">https://www.fao.ucla.edu/myfao</a></p>

ok, i guess only some peoples' are out....

yes.. mines not out! =(

ok quick questions. what if you accept the federal work study and decide later that you dont want to work? is there any penalty for doing that?

also, couldnt you make more money if you get a part time job by NOT going through work study since work study limits you to a maximum amount of money you can earn?

is it easier to get a work study job vs. just walking in and applying?

No penalty for accepting work study and going through with it just the funds get allocated to other students. No usually and I'm using my experience the job you get with work study helps your employer because helf of your salary is covered by the state but once these funds diffuse then your emplyer will pay for 100% of your salary they dont really fire you or anything just your payroll gets changed from work study to university corp thats all. Yes, it is easier to get work study jobs because as I mentioned earlier its an added incentive for employers to have half your salary covered by the state so they prefer work study students over non but this doesnt necessarily mean you wont get hired if you dont have it. I'd suggest you get it there is no penalty and it does give you another option if you decide to work on campus.

cool, thanks :)

How screwed am I for financial aid if it turns out that the financial aid office still hasn't been able to process my eFAN because they didn't have my citizenship papers and I didn't turn in a final revision (they only had the one with the estimation of my parent's 2004 income taxes) of my FAFSA? -_-. I mean, my efc is 0...and the income in the revision is lower than it was in the estimated version I sent in months ago...sigh. I really wish they would email us these notices instead.

did you update your fafsa after you parents filed their taxes?

i guess you can still do something. theres a few ways to appeal, like petition to use projected income or something like that.

still waiting for mine....=(

the Fin. Aid website doesn't state a deadline as to when you need your revisions done on your FAFSA, but here's the link to do your revisions:

<a href="http://www.fao.ucla.edu/bulletin_fafsa_estimated_income.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.fao.ucla.edu/bulletin_fafsa_estimated_income.htm</a></p>

When's the deadline for finishing our eFANs? And when they ask about housing, is Sunset considered On Campus or Off Campus apartments?

Also, are the loans they offer better than student loans from banks?

Sunset is on campus. And yes the loans they offer are usually better than the ones you can get from a bank because they are backed by the federal government and have lower interest rates. For some loans, the government will pay the interest while you are in school.

Alright whats the difference between subsidized and unsubsidized loans and between the stafford and perkins loan?

from wat i kno, stafford has 2 kinds of loans, subsidized and unsubsidized. the government pays for the interest on subsidized loans while you're in school. for the unsubsidized loans you pay for the interest, but the rates are still lower than what you'd get through a normal loan from banks or other organizations. the interest rates for stafford loans changes every year at 7/1, so it actually fluxuates from year to year. you also have a 6 month grace period for stafford. however the rate for perkins stays at 5% each year, with a 9 month grace period.

also everyone, you'll b required to attend a debt management session before the loans are disbursed to u, and for some of us it's gonna b taken care of at orientation. its where you learn about the loans and wat to do w/the money and how to take care of your spending, so don't worry too much about not knowing anything

Are CalGrants supposed to be listed on the EFan?

My Cal Grant was listed on my eFan, so I guess yes.

And thanks to the guys who explained the loans.

If you're a transfer student Cal Grants won't show up on your eFan yet.

allena why is that? and if so when do you think they'll show up? I submitted my updated fafsa from expected family income to now filed income and I should get more aid because the expected I put down was 41k but the actualy was 33k so its lower than I expected do you guys think I will get more aid and when do you think my ePal or eFan will reflect this update?

The difference is that Freshmen submitted their Cal Grants directly to UCLA. If you're transfering then your Cal Grant is still being sent to you're old school. Appearently in July we should get a form to renew our Cal Grant and report and changes. On that form we have to report that we've changed schools. When I talked to the California State Education Board to figure out why my Cal Grant was not showing up, I was told it was not a bad idea to contact the new school and at least make them aware that you've recieved a Cal Grant. UCLA however is requesting that people with problems for the fall wait until July 1st to contact them.

my cal grant showed up, but i'm a UC to UC transfer so maybe that's why.

That'd be my guess, I'm having a difficult time getting mine to switch over.
