Topic- Should people take more responsibility for solving problems that affect their communities or the nation in general? Plan and write an essay blah blah blah.

Today, the issue of "Big Government" runs ramped through our various news outlets. The question perplexes many individuals, "Should the government be at our beck and call?" Ultimately the decision boils down to Socialism or Capitalism; Democrat or Republican. Though I choose not to affiliate with such corrupt political nonsense, I am steadfast in believing the government is not our savior, and the people must take responsibility to improve our country.

President Obama's 2008 Emergency Economic Stabilization Act epitomizes the notion that the government is responsible for our well-being. In a manner resembling that of a mother hen defending her chicks, our government passed a bill to bailout several massive banks and corporations. The automobile company, General Motors, recieved billions of dollares of what is essentially free money. This act was, at best, a skewed version of our capitalistic ideals. The should have been the people of General Motors who were responsible for their own fates. They should have worked more efficiently, smarter, or with greater parsimony.

In 2009, I was awarded a scholarship for $5,000 from my county's nonprofit scholarship foundation. As you can see, I do welcome some kinds of free money. This act of grandiose generosity from the people of my county is a prime example of how communities can sustain themselves without government aid. The government is not able to provide a free college education for ever citizen, and so, it is the people's responsibility to get students to their next level of education.

America is a Republic, and our citizens hold the power to choose their representatives. When roads needed, or our country needs protection, this is where our government must act. That is, after all, the main role of government; to keep us safe and free. We as the people must elect the officials who will abide by this founding principle.
