Does UCSD guarantee admission to ELC applicants? If not, what is the acceptance rate for ELC and which UCs do guarantee admission?

One more thing...I didn't spend that much time on the essays, especially the Potential to Contribute one, so they didn't turn out that good. I overlooked a few typos and screw ups. Overall, they weren't horrible, but not great either. How much will a so-so essay affect my chances at UCSD and the other UCs? I'm hoping that since I applied ELC, it won't matter that much.

UCSD does not guarantee admission for ELC – however, the acceptance rate for ELC applicants is something absurd like 94%, so don’t worry too much. :) As for the schools that do guarantee admission, I’m not sure if they change every year, but for my year it was Irvine and Merced.

For UCSD, don’t worry about your essays. Take a look at this page, and note the all-caps bold text at the bottom – they’re not looking at your writing ability at all, but rather if they can give you points for personal hardships and that that kind of stuff. The Potential to Contribute essay is probably completely worthless for UCSD admissions. ;)
