They are supposed to have sent them out last week.

ELC Notifications

UC begins mailing ELC notification letters at the end of August and these letters continue through September. Schools are processed in the order in which the transcripts were received.

Can't be true.

Lamgeo, thanks for the information and specific URL with the schedule.

I know for a fact that my daughter's transcripts were sent TO UC for evaluation, and the way I read that note is that whether or not she is ELC, she would receive a PATHWAYS password, althought those might be mailed a little later than the ELC notification. (My D. is #2 in her class out of about 160 students according to the school's calculation, but UC will recalculate and I don't know how that will come out obviously) So since she hasn't gotten that easier, it just means stuff hasn't been mailed yet. So relax -- even if UC is running on time, the letters go out in staggered fashion. Talk to your classmates or school counselor to find out whether notices have gone out for your school yet.

I think that's right - if the school asked for authorization to release the transcripts to UC last spring I think that means the student was in the top 12.5% at the school - and it looks like all of those students will get some kind of notification, whether they're in the top 4% or not, if I'm reading the website correctly. (I doubt my son is in the top 4% but he must have been in the top 12.5% as we were asked for authority to release his transcripts.)

actually, it's possible that some kids were at the 12.5% mark after first semester grades, but could/ve dropped below that mark after second semester grades. Conversely, some at the 12.6% mark could move up into the top 12.5....

For example, our public HS asks the top ~14% for permission to release transcripts (based on Jan grading), but then only sends out the top 12.5% after spring grades are posted.

Sooo, let's keep this post going until the elc letters start poring in. :)

you don't have to apply for ELC or anything.. they just notify you if you have it? if not then u don't get anything, right?

do kids at high schools that don't rank get ELC. If yes then how do they choose. If no then aren't those kids at a disadvantage.

Thanks

all schools calculate gpa, and with computers, can easily print out the ranking, even if the school doesn't publish the results.

If schools wanna participate in the elc process, they send a data file with the top 10-12% (including ties) of the class to UC in summer after spring grades are posted, and UC calculates the elc gpa themselves, based on its own criteria.

ETS,
D's h.s. "doesn't rank," either. (At least not "officially.") Yet they managed to pull out top 4% with ties when UC requested that. The students in question were not even aware they were in the pool until the notification came from UC with passwords & all.

There are lots of schools which state they don't rank, yet they often choose & Val & Sal based on rank, so go figure.

When push comes to shove, the h.s.'s are able to provide such confidential info.

No news is good news. ??

I'm assuming from the fact that no one has yet posted about receiving ELC notification, UC is probably running behind schedule - as I am sure there must be many CC students who will qualify. So my guess is that letters have not yet gone out - or at least that the vast bulk of them have not yet been sent.

I can't swear to this, but I really think my D rec'd notification in late Sept. or early October. I have a memory of being deeply into the college app process by the time the ELC letter arrived. I'll find the letter later & correct this info if I'm wrong.

That's good, because I haven't gotten my letter yet either.

My school's ELC submission is in the process of being evaluated. So results are not yet available.

epiphany:

were you able to locate your D's letter from last year? I'm just curious to how late into the fall does the UC send 'em....

You can check online using the "UC ELC School Status Search" here:
https://www.ucelc.org/ucschoolstatus/school_status_search.htm

I was able to search successfully entering the high school name and city - I did not need to also know the ATP code. However, when I ran the search and it gave me the ATP code, and that turned out to be the same number as the CEEB code.

Caution: I have no way of knowing how current or accurate the database is - the page linking to the database said that it had "2004" results, but I'm acting right now on the assumption (hope) that the online database is current and it simply is the web page with the link that has not been updated.
