I’m heading off to my first year of university this September, and need some advice choosing electives. My program requires me to choose two courses outside of the business program, and I’m having trouble deciding. I’m looking for something related to my future employment prospect, which is to be a corporate lawyer.
Well for one thing, you should try not to use your electives until you get your more difficult classes (upper-levels) since it’s must easier to fill electives slots when you’re about to graduate than trying to get those certain classes you need for your major.
But to answer your question, you will probably wanting to do some technical writing or math-related electives.
If your college has a liberal arts core curriculum I would try to take courses that fill some of those requirements. You should be able to find that information from the school’s website (or you can talk to the registrar). I would be sure to stick with Intro. level classes as a first semester freshman.
Depending on your major, these might be requirements, but I would recommend the following that will help you in the future regardless of your major: Accounting, Business Law, Public Speaking, Business Communications, Personnel Management, Sales/Advertising/Marketing.
Apologies, misinterpreted, thinking business electives. Well, Public Speaking would still count, and be good for a lawyer. Perhaps an intro to computer science as Technology Law is growing area of law.
