I am currently living in Illinois and I will be choosing between Wisconsin-Madison and Georgia Tech. I'm planning on doing Electrical Engineering. In some ways, I like Madison better because it is closer to where I live and it offers many other options in case I decide to change my major. But I know Georgia Tech has better engineering programs. Can I get some advices?

Georgia Tech, but if I were you I would look into University of Illinois- Urbana and Champaign, not only is their EE program considered better than the two you listed but its one of the best in the country. Also getting into UIUC is just as easy/hard as getting into UW or GaTech and you will probably get a good instate discount as well.

Of course I applied to UIUC for engineering. It was my first choice until they offered me undecided major (division of general studies) instead of engineering major. I am pretty upset about that right now..

University of Wisconsin Madison is better.

If you’re unsure about whether you want to do engineering, UW-Madison has more options for you. You don’t want to be in GT, and then realise you hate engineering, and not be able to get out of it.

Both schools are very good electrical engineering schools. I would go to the University Of Wisconsin - Madison because like people said that there are more options there in case you decide not to do engineering.

While GT has a somewhat higher ranked EE program, it’s not like UW is a bad school. Generally in engineering, once you reach a certain threshhold (and both schools easily exceed it), other factors become more important (size, location, cost, etc.). Where do you want to work when you get out of school? How likely is it that you’ll change majors? Is weather a consideration? What about M/F ratio? Big vs. small city? You can always apply to both and make your decision IF you’re accepted to both schools - perhaps one of them will make the decision for you. Lots of time to work this out.

UW has hotter girls and nice cold weather @o@/

I’d go with Madison, u may not realize it at first but being closer to home is a big plus! also it’s got a great rep’ yo!

If i were you, Gatech would be tempting too though because there are so many scientists and engineers, it would feel like MIT u know??? u’d have a good community of friends that are going through the same motions as you and that would be nice…and helpfull

ur in a good position, both are great…u know if you go to madison u’ll be like man i’m GLAD i didn’t go to Gatech because ull love madison so much…but if you go to Gatech it will be vice versa…haha!
