Eli Whitney Students Program 2015

Safe travels @AnonBurner2015 ! Definitely check in here and let us know how things went! I’ll be rooting for you!
When do you head out to CT?

Hey @Calilove15 welcome to the waiting room!

@Abendstern Thanks ! Do you think it’s a few rounds of interviews ? It’s crazy how some go out while other people are still getting transcripts matched up. @AnonBurner2015 yayyyy congratulations!

If you look at the previous threads on CC, it seems like the interviews were scheduled by the first week of May and happen throughout the end of April and all of May.

Regular transfer applications were due March 1st (decisions are made mid-May, I think)… so that admissions process is happening concurrently but is a month ahead of EWSP. Although Yale’s website says transfer students are not given interviews… it seems like some transfer applicants may be juggled between regular transfer admission and EWSP admission. Perhaps there is some leeway if the adcom thinks the applicant better fits the EWSP process…?? I have read in posts that SOME transfer students were, in fact, asked to interview. Purely my own speculation based on posts in an anonymous forum  but we’ve got nothing else to go on and I am at the stage where I need something to occupy my mind while I wait… idle speculation it is! B-)

Another thing… the last day of Bulldog Days is today. That’s surely kept adcom pretty busy… I imagine it’s all hands on deck for BDD. Maybe when the pre-frosh head back home we will get a surge of interview calls.

What’s everyone majoring in?

Oh man, lol
Biochemistry and biophysics.

Okay so I just called and not one Interview has gone out . she said it would be soon by the end of April to mid May . They have not processed anyone’s or had a chance to have the admission team review them . So anyone saying that have one doesn’t . Hahah what

I doubt a transfer applicant would want to be considered for the EWSP. Whitney Students are only eligible for financial aid to cover tuition and they cannot live in their residential college. The other significant difference is that Whitney Students are permitted to attend part time.

@Calilove15 Interview requests have gone out, but I haven’t heard of people doing interviews yet. I am scheduled toward the end of May and I have a friend being interviewed at the end of this month.

@AnonBurner2015 . The EWSP have not gone out. The only one in charge of making those calls hasn’t even received any student applications on her desk yet. She said they will start going out maybe next week and then until mid May . She said not one interview was even booked . Maybe you’re talking about transfers .

Good point @springing . I guess I was thinking if they weren’t going to get in as a regular transfer and it was the only other shot. Again, it was just wild speculation on my part. I know you’d applied last year… any advice for us newbies this time around?

Thanks for the update on interviews @Calilove15 !

@Abendstern with a 4% admit rate my only advice at this point is to sit back and enjoy the ride. If you are one of the lucky few who make it to the interview round try not to stress, but be prepared. You need to be able to answer the Why Yale question with clarity. And be sure to use the opportunity to ask questions. The interview process is unique. Unlike traditional undergrad applicants, Whitney applicants interview with members of the admission staff. Your interviewer will be the same person sitting on the final selection committee if you make it to committee.

Thanks for the advice @springing! Every iota is helpful!
May will be a busy month for me, I’ll actually be traveling more than I’m home. Yale is my priority, so I’ll drop everything if I have to for an interview but I’d prefer to juggle things and do it all, if I can.
Do you remember how much lead time were you given when they called to schedule the interview? Was it, “Can you come next week?” Were there a few choices for dates? Is the vibe that they expect you to drop everything (I mean, it is Yale!) or are they understanding that EWSP candidates likely have very complex lives? Somewhere in between?
LOL Can you tell I’m a bit of an over-analyzer??

Yale Herald article about EWSP from February 2015, in case anyone is interested.

@Abendstern, thank you for that link. What a benefit for the traditional students! Good luck. I have no specific knowledge to answer your questions about interviews, but IME Yale is (usually) thoughtful in these kinds of things.

Bumping this thread… did anyone else get an interview? Don’t worry we’re not competing against each other – Yale EWSP takes as many as are qualified (2-9 per year, avg. 6). No competition here, unlike with transfer or frosh applicants.

But just wondering? Anyone know from prior years how many interviews are offered and the admit rate from the interview pool?

Sigh… wish I had scheduled for a sooner date. So anxious… :stuck_out_tongue:

@Abendstern Thanks for the link – very informative. Though makes me nervous that a highly-ranked US Intelligence officer was in the pool a few years back (he deserves it).

OverHYPed, I haven’t got an interview, either. I think Yale might still be arranging interviews. Otherwise, we will probably have to consider our application rejected. Anyway, good luck to us all.

Hello to you both Stevenlovesyale and OverHYPed!

Reading over past threads, seemed like the numbers are in these ranges:

100-120 applicants
20-25ish interviews
4-8 admits
(I’m going by memory after midnight so that could be a bit off!)

The interviews in past years seem to have been arranged over the course of a few weeks and held throughout the month of May. I get the impression that they began scheduling a bit later this year. So we may still have some time to get calls! It’s not over til it’s over.

Did you get a call recently OverHYPed? How far out did you schedule the interview? Will you have to travel or are you local? And of course… Best of luck!!! I agree, we aren’t competing like transfers or prefrosh. We can all win in this. We are really only trying to be the best versions of ourselves that we can be.

@Abendstern I got the call on about late April. I got the confirmation email the same day… as of now I’m not flying to New Haven but I might reconsider.

For those that did get the call, did Yale (or in past years) schedule 2 back to back interviews? They scheduled two for me…

@OverHYPed,
Hmm… 2 interviews… did you mention that you planned to do a Skype interview on the phone? Maybe they book back-to-back to create some buffer time in case there are technical difficulties with a video call??

Hey @AnonBurner2015, you said you had a friend who interviewed with Yale at the end of April. Do you know how it went for them? Was that for EWSP or for a regular transfer?

@Ccecon112 @Calilove15 @Stevenlovesyale any news for any of you?

I’ve been keeping busy but every once in awhile I leave my phone elsewhere, then hear it ringing and go on a mad dash to across the house grab it, only to breathlessly answer a call from a solar salesman or chimney sweep company. Then there are the times I hear phantom ringing and go on the same mad dash… Oh well, if I don’t get a call, it’s been a great way to get some exercise in! :-<
