I've noticed that many people on CC are, or close to being elitist. Some believe that they are superior and a very low opinion of all of their classmates. My hypothesis is that since there are so many smart people on CC, they are somehow separated from their peers, causing them hate others for excluding them. Has anyone else notice the elitism around here?

Oh no! Look everyone! A politically incorrect opinion. Well I guess I better give a politically correct response.

I am not sure of that to which you refer as elitist, but I can assure you that most of the persons on CC spend diminutive amounts of efforts judging others and comparing themselves to others. We view classmates as our peers, and therefore as our equals; we do not view them as anything else. I fail to comprehend from what you have ascertained that persons on CC are smart (and it seems that you are allowing your individual biases of judging others affect your judgment of others), that they are separated from their peers, or that they hate others for excluding them. Elitism goes against everything that we value because we would deny from ourselves the opportunity to learn and grow from interaction with the utmost multiplicity and variety of persons.

But in all seriousness,
of course elitism exists.

-I’m sleep deprived even though I’m only in high school threads
-My idiot/cheating classmate did better than me threads
-etc.
However, your presentation of this observation is very pretentious because your noticing it entails that others have noticed it, unless your believe that you are smarter than others, in which case others won’t have noticed it.

I dont understand why my post was deleted? I literally just spent three sentences that CC users are just hardworking and don’t have complexes because of their grades?

Hey, what happened to my post?

While I admit now that I read my own words I sound like a total dick, my point is still valid. While its definetely not a large marjority of CC, I see “people in any regular classes are all stupid idiots”, “my classmates are going to serve me my burger”, “lol you have an average GPA I’m smarter than you” sometimes. I’m merely asking others if they’ve seen this as well.

I’ve seen it a little bit

Yeah, it’s not elitism, it’s arrogance. We all have it because we’re all biased.

Are you a guy, because guys are total dicks( get the pun).

I’ll openly say it, I’m extremely elitist (in the way you described it).
Honestly, I believe it depends on the environment you’re in. Last year, at a different school for gifted people, I would have described myself as humble and hardworking. This year, at a sub-par ordinary public high school, I’m condescending and annoyed by my peers. I know it’s wrong, but my arrogance gets the best of me when I’m in an environment where it’s easy to shine.
I would guess the environment also effects others here (maybe in the opposite way too: they feel smarter by being arrogant on CC?)
