Elks MVS 2018

Does anyone know when State winners will be announced?

I think around March 2, but not entirely sure.

I hate waiting.

@CourtneyThurston Just out of curiosity, if you are selected as a state winner (4k level) is there an additional application/essay that needs to be done to be considered as a national winner and go to the scholarship weekend? Thanks

@celara55 I’m not Courtney, but yes, there is.

I’m kind of late to this thread, but I made it to states for NC! I think I also got a local lodge scholarship too… they called me for a 1k scholarship but I’m not entirely sure if it is a one time thing or over the course of 4 years but I’m pretty excited!

Congrats and welcome, @treepanda!

Hi everyone!!! I just found this thread and I’m happy to have a community of people joining together in our journey for the Elks scholarship. I received an email last month that I passed the district level and advanced to the states level!! I’m ECSTATIC!!

I do have a question, though.

My family income is middle class, 100k-125k. Well above the usual batch of students who go to nations. But my circumstance is very unique and unusual. I come from an abusive household and am sure I won’t have any aid in affording college from my family. I aim to get away from their influence and cut off our toxic connection and (hopefully) recover from the damage done from me.

I made sure to mention this to them and wrote this in the additional special circumstances section:

“I am in need of financial assistance to attend college because of the severe circumstance I am in with regards to my family. I am in an abusive household, and this past year I’ve had numerous investigations held in account of this statement. I have documentation of my admission to my local mental care institution the month of January as a result of this perpetual abuse, as well as written police reports issued as a result of running away from home due to physical altercations August of 2017. Although my parents’ combined income is significant, help in paying for college will not be provided by them. They have told me that they would not pay a cent for anything regarding college fees, and if it came down to it that they must contribute largely, they would make it so that I’m bound by their abusive tactics to keep me trapped in their hold. In order to escape from this toxic household, I am taking the initiative to seek resources that might aid me in my college journey. I have many aspirations for college, and I fear that the circumstance I am in will be a detriment to my future.”

Do you think they would reconsider my family income in this regard and consider my circumstance?

Congrats on making the state finals! Alas, there’s no way to know how they will consider your statement. Good luck to you anyway, though!

Does everyone find out at different times?

Reading last year’s thread, it looked like emails went out to everyone at the same time, but who knows what this year will be like.

A couple people in here have stated they are moving in and told at different times

@celara55 yes

We’re down to the final week of waiting. If anyone hears before Friday, please let us know. Remember to check your spam filters and the ISTS portal.

Good luck, all! May the odds be ever our favor.

We find out on thursday right? march 1st?

My son’s letter said March 2, Friday.

Mine also said March 2nd.

Love that from the Hunger Games! Good luck everyone!!!

Question: What are the “supplements?”

I think supplements are attachments such as transcripts, FAFSA, etc.
