Hey guys and gals, can anyone help me with an important question? Will the Elks scholarship be awarded to someone not in financial need. I can't get a clear answer from anoyone, including my counselor. She says I ought to apply for it despite my lack of financial need, and she feels like I would have a chance for one of the top awards (I feel like I would if financial need was not part of the consideration). However, is it worth my time if I know that 200 of the 1000 point judging process are based on financial need. For the sake of time, assume that I would get 800 points from the other 2 categories. Would it be enough to even get one of the 494 $4,000 awards. Sorry if I sound cocky with this post; I just feel like I'd have a good shot and please don't ask me for any of my info for why. I would greatly appreciate if anyone can help, or provide examples of students who won an award without financial need. Thanks, and happy holidays!

Yeah, I'm wondering about this one too. I don't think I'll be getting many points from the financial need column, but I should be solid in every other area.

we both could use some answers then...hopefully someone has them.

bumpppppppppppp

I wonder as well...its an involved process if its not worth the time

help????????? thanks.

Yeah I was wondering about that too. It's 200 points out of 1000 points.

I say apply, because you'll never know... that is .. of course you really have nothing else to do and can finish it without a problem. Money is money, and EVERYONE can use them whether you're rich or not... the worst thing that can happen is they don't give it to you... anyway, I'm applying. Good luck !

I think you already have the answer to your question.

you can get a total of 1000 points -- out of various categories, one of them being financial need.

If you are competing against another student (or students) who have the same stats/abilities/community service, etc as you AND they demonstrate financial need, they will end up with more points.

It all comes down to the pool of applicants -- how they stack up according to you and whether they demonstrate financial need. No one can tell you this until all applications are in and evaluated.

If you feel that you have a strong shot at getting all 800 points (all points except financial need) then it might be good for you to try. also, there is a possiblity of 200 points for financial need -- maybe you can pick up a few if you can show: high cost of school tuition, siblings, medical expenses, or any other extenuating circumstance -- I think that a written explanation aside from any official financial paperwork, might get you some points (unless your dad is donald trump, then skip it).

If you feel like you are fairly week in another area in addition to financial need, you might be better off spending your time elsewhere.

good luck!

well, i've had good luck with other scholaarships so maybe it is worth a shot. i just hate to fil out a long app. if the financial need part is going to result in no scholarship. we'll see i guess. i wonder if anybody can confirm 800 points qualifies for the 4,000 dollar award. thanks.
