Hi, everyone! I just received an email by Yale inviting me to apply. The thing is that I didn’t subscribe to Yale admission. They got my data from college board. My friend who has gone through the application process says that she got inviting emails from 3 colleges, applied to them and got accepted by all the three. So, is this a good sign? Does this mean that they like me?
Have you listed Yale as part of the “my colleges” list on the Common Application? I got an email from Yale saying something like “my colleagues and I look forward to reading your application etc.” so it might not be data from Collegeboard. Even if you scored like perfect scores on the SAT 1 and subject tests I can’t imagine Yale would be attracted by simply that alone.
It’s not your fault, but it’s part of a marketing ploy by Yale. A lot of the top schools (most notoriously UChicago) send out mass emails to students who really shouldn’t be applying there. I don’t know your stats and I’m not saying that you don’t have a chance of getting into Yale, but don’t consider Yale simply because they sent you a nice email. I think it’s kind of disgusting that this is how far the USNWR gaming has gone where a lot of innocent students get their hopes up just to be crushed when they’re rejected.
If your stats and ECs are in Yale-territory and you like the school, go ahead and apply! Don’t feel obligated to apply though. College admissions rankings are based partially on number of applicants and schools will do almost anything to increase that number.
Between them, my D’s got inviting emails and ‘personalized’ letters from genuinely dozens of colleges and universities. You obviously have good test scores, and as @micmatt513 says, this is their effort to bump up their applications.
It means nothing in terms of acceptance probabilities.
