I got accepted into UCSD, but I got a D in Chemistry for my Biochemistry major. I missed one test because I overslept, and the professor doesn't allow make up. It was too late for me at that point to drop. That is not a valid excuse I know. I don't know what I do know

It’s possible, since it is a major prerequisite for your major. You should call the admissions office on Monday because they may give you an option to make it up.

D is still a passing grade better than drop, but you may want to check with them. I think you are in trouble since you are require to pass all classes with a C or better.

D is not a passing grade, C is lowest passing grade.

I’ve talked to UCSD admissions officers about this, and they said as long as you dont breach any of your requirements on your contract, then you are fine. They have to keep their end of allowing you admission as long as you follow your contract. Also, since UCSD in particular doesnt accept people by major, it doesn’t really matter if the class was a pre req or not (unless it was an impacted major). I can see get a D in a pre-req class for Cal or LA being a big deal since they accept by major. Call UCSD and make sure to repost their response. Good luck.

The transfer provisional contract states that students need to have at least a 2.0 gpa in their last semester. As long as you meet this provision, your admission stands.

Thanks everyone for replying. This is the response I got, so I guess I’m safe. :)

no ^

@Ferrari4XD: What are you talking about?

That’s the response you got from a counselor or admissions officer at UCSD? If they themselves told you that, then you should be safe. Usually though, you have to get at least a C in all classes which is the 2.0 GPA. If you fail to meet ANY of the requirements, you’re in danger of being rescinded. Good luck

My average GPA for the Spring is 2.0. I’m not sure if that is what they meant. I specifically stated that I have a D in chemistry.

Last year that D would have unquestionably gotten you rescinded but this year the UCs seem to be looking for any reason they can come up with not to rescind an accepted student for poor grades in their final term before transfer. However, a D in Chemistry at a community college for someone planning on majoring in Biochemistry does not auger well for your future studies at UCSD.

D is in no way better than a w.

Grades of D

A grade of D (include plus/minus) in a transferable course will count toward the number of transferable units you have completed. However, you must earn a grade of C or better when completing the transfer eligibility course pattern described in Minimum Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students. And, in most cases, grades of D do not satisfy major or general education requirements.

sum it up, D in major requirements is a big deal. Not sure how ucsd works, but thats how it works for other UCs. oh and sorry for not clarify it lol. I meant to say good in a way when you don’t have enough units like 60? then a D will be counted toward it.

Call UCSD Counselor > any of us here

Because how would you feel when you finish all that required registration and paperwork; and then the moment you TURN IN YOUR TRANSCRIPT, THEY WILL SEE THAT D GRADE. Your admissions counselor will then rescind your offer right there and then; and you just lost the chance to fix anything because you didn’t tell them asap. Call them, they are more credible than any of us here.

Because if you get a “D”, that means that won’t be transferable. If it won’t transfer, then means you have fewer UC transferable units. If you get under 60 UC-transferable units = rescind.

I called then and the said that a D is okay if my overall GPA is 2.0. I checked and my Physics class is a transferable course which counts toward the overall GPA.
