Emma Watson Gears Up For Ivy League Life

This is the second time you’ve slandered her, Phead. :P

English culture is far more open to human sexuality and taboos than American culture. You attempting to rile her up by calling her “promiscuous” would not offend her: it would confuse her.

Some of you are really jealous and have a sense of entitlement that makes me feel uncomfortable. She didn’t take a seat away from anyone! Please check your resentment at the door. It is both arrogant and comical; if you feel resentment about this, you should be grateful that you have not suffered much in life.

She’s not an idiot. She has very high test scores AND an amazing EC…I don’t see how anyone can begrudge her acceptance. As someone said, its not like they admitted Paris Hilton.

Some people’s responses about the reasons for getting an undergraduate education are rather narrow minded. Getting higher level education is not purely for the sake of getting a job, although it is obviously a contributing factor for the vast majority of us. People go to university to learn about the world, experience university life, make friends, enjoy independence. If you’re passionate about a subject then why not learn about it? It’s better than lazing about at home, seeing as she’ll be able to sustain the rest of her life with her current net wealth :P

EDIT: I also agree with esoteric above. Although mainstream holllywood acting is a bit overexaggerated and doesn’t necessarily mean you’re better at acting than someone who’s performed in large local productions, it does stand out as an amazing EC. How does it differ from acting at school productions? Same thing, larger scale. And she’s lucky to have had the experience, but it’s helped define her character. She’ll add a lot to the Brown community, and that’s what admissions officers are looking for. Smart, varied people. And her academic results are pretty top notch. Don’t know about her SATs though. I’d love to read her essays… I wonder what they’ll be about. Hmmmm…

I can see her getting hit on by a lot of brown guys lol

After checking out her stats she is definetly worthy. Honestly, I could care less where she is going. What is shocking to me is the reported 10 million euro she has. Damn!!! She is set for life. I wish I had that kind of safety cushion.

Whatever…50 grand a year to read books and smoke pot

Not only is she NOT under-qualified, there’s a good case to be made for her being the MOST qualified applicant on Earth this year: From the age of ten, she’s gone to work, learned her lines, hit her marks, and gotten great reviews as a key presence in the most successful franchise in cinema history – while at the same time staying at school in Oxford and scoring eight A-stars and two A’s on her GCSEs, followed by four A-level A’s. Um, yes, she’d have gotten in anywhere she applied – never doubt that.

^^yeah, people are being pretty ridiculous about her not being good enough to get into Brown. she’s been successfully working as an actress for the past eight years and her test scores have been publicized, they’re definitely more than adequate for a school of Brown’s caliber.

besides the fact that it’s her choice where she studies, maybe she just wanted to live in the US for a bit? it’s been said that she was more inclined to choose a US school over a UK school because she is much more of a celebrity in the UK and would have a harder time trying to work as a normal student.

Winnie Cooper from The Wonder Years studied mathematics in college.

“A most righteous math babe” – Bill & Ted

I admire her for going to college at all. Daniel Radcliffe isn’t. Going to college will probably cost her hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost opportunities, in addition to tuition.

ITA with Sci-Fry

As an Emma Watson fan I support her decision. I mean, I don’t get why some of you guys are so bitter about celebrities going to college. Are they not allowed to continue their education as well? Most celebrities think, “Oh well I’m going to be doing this for the rest of my life, I don’t need to go to college.” Some end up failing and probably regret not having a degree to fall back on after all their money is gone.

I support everyone’s personal decisions. I’m not really interested in where every movie star is going to college. Imagine Ms. Watson without any sort of star power: would she be a candidate for Brown then? I think that’s what is most troublesome these days. But she is somewhat of an icon among the nerdiest of nerds- the Princess Leia of our generation, so I don’t think I mind so much.

How do ANY of you really know how smart she is?! Its not like she’s publicly posting her TOEFL/SAT scores, or having Mensa parties at her house…

But you see, she’s 19 right now. She was suppose to go a year ago for the US. Three years ago for the UK. I know she has to act, but like seriously.

How many Brown students would get in if you took away their best non-school achievement?

Well, she says that she won’t be able to be a normal student in the UK? British news will fly over to Rhode Island and broadcast and bother her anyways. And American news will take a walk to bother her.

And look Emma Watson will never run out of money. If she uses $10 million euros in her lifetime, then who is she?

There are plenty of Brown students who didn’t win Intel or write a book or win an Academy Award- they did achieve, but not UP THERE. Her career was launched at age 11 quite unexpectedly. You can pretty much guarantee that most of the work getting her into the first HP film was not hers.

The question is: would she have been able to do well if HP didn’t exist? Would she have been a star anyways?

What is being gained by suggesting she didn’t deserve her place? She’s going whether anyone likes it or not. Some people need to quit acting like they’re the official collegiate gatekeeper.

There’s always a thread on CC about some person, or group of people, who don’t “deserve” to attend x-school.

It’s mainly bitter jealousy. Humans, by nature, feel the need to make excuses for themselves. Part of this is bemoaning the people who don’t “deserve” to be where they are.

Lulz at debating the value of her career as an EC.

Pretty sure people were whining about Shawn Johnson and her choice of college a couple of weeks ago.

Emma going to Brown has nothing to do with you or your chances at getting in because it already happened. Just let it be.

No paps are going to camp out in Rhode Island just for Emma Watson when the real money is in LA and NY.

I agree with JB and CheeryBroody, it really doesn’t make a difference. Everyone knows the admissions process is flawed, and who doesn’t mind seeing EW on campus anyhow?

8 A* in her GCSEs? W00t, I beat her.
Now I will apply to Brown and write:

GCSE results: Better than Emma Watson. Now accept me :stuck_out_tongue:
If only I was a movie star…
