Has anyone received a likely letter? Date, stats?
We heard that the likely letters go out March 1 from one of the coaches. Not sure if it is a email or letter
thanks!
Out of curiosity, what is a likely letter?
what should a likely letter look like ?
I think they basically say that you will receive good news who decisions released…as long as grades hold…
Yeah, but wouldn’t that be limited to athletes? I don’t believe non-scholarship (as in those being offered a Liberal Arts Scholarship, or some non-Woodruff merit aid) applicants outside of athletes receive likely letters.
some colleges do them for regular decision non athletes
Emory tried it one year for them and then apparently decided to not offer it in subsequent years
S got one in 2014 did anyone receive one this year?
Those usually are from sports teams. We were thinking my son was going to receive one, but we have not as yet. So, I do not think he will be getting one. I think he would have gotten it by now.
does anyone know when emory RD are given and are they email? thanks
I got an email a couple of minutes ago, it reads:
“Congratulations! It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Emory University community as a member of the Emory College Class of 2020! Your academic record is impressive, and we believe you are a great fit for Emory’s challenging learning environment and supportive community […] students invited to Essence are traditionally either first generation college students, or they are from an underrepresented cultural or socioeconomic background.”
Is this sort of an LL type thing?
@zfarrias I got the same thing for Oxford and Emory. Very unexpected, but gift horse in mouth and all that jazz. Not sure to call it likely as it’s quite blatant haha.
@zfarrias and @Nedcone No, you are a URM or person of an under-represented socioeconomic status for which they have a special visitation program/yield event for. You get an early acceptance partly because they need to start planning the event and this requires them to begin taking roll (as in who they think is interested in attending and how many). Congrats on your acceptance! If you are at least somewhat interested (I know that not everyone admitted is interested in yielding, which is silly as folks should only apply to top/expensive schools they can see themselves attending b/c this is college not professional school, but whatever.) in attending Emory at all, I recommend attending Essence. It was pretty fun and plus you get to attend some classes, meet faculty, and much more.
I’m a URM. Should I be concerned if I did not get the email?
@Balbina : I don’t know, they can’t invite everyone. I know sometimes it may be based on perceived financial need (as in they may be concerned they have to fly some folks out and those are the ones who they definitely want to target as attendance at regular open house is less likely if finances restrict travel) and locale (like if you’re in Georgia/SE so can more easily access Emory). But yes, not every URM at Emory came or was invited to Essence as far as I know. Also, for all I know, it may also be targeting those that could be harder to yield (perceived as having lots of offers or scholarship opps whether they be at other top schools or not). I don’t know how it is decided, but not all get it.
I received a LL today via email
@IfnousWHO That’s an acceptance!
@cardinalsin2020
ok, so I am not familiar with these LL. I am not international. Does that mean I am getting denied?
