Emory College or NYU??

I can't decide which one to attend. I have visited NYU and made friends there during springbreak, so I decided to attend NYU. However, when I came home, I found out that Emory is offering me a full ride. I havn't visited Emory yet, but I know it is a great school. On the other hand, NYU offered only about 30k. My parents said they will pay for the cost if I go to NYU. Even though they are capable of paying the cost, it feels weird within me at this moment having them paying for my education.

I am not sure what my major will be at this moment, but leaning toward pursuing a pre-law track or pre-med. Which school will better prepare me for law schools like Harvard if I work really hard? Which one should I chose if money is not an issue???

NYU, New York offers so many amazing opportunities where Atlanta is…well the ATL

That’s how I feel, too!! I have so many relatives living in NYC as well, and I am much familiar with NYC than Atlanta even though I have lived in both cities. My main concern is: “is NYU’s education worth the money?”

Emory is good for premed. NYU is for pre-law.

I can’t believe this is actually a thread. Go to Emory for free. There’s no way in hell you’re making up that 80k difference for a long, long time if at all.

@gthopeful

The OP said that his/her parents are capable and willing to pay for NYU so there would be no debt.

Yea, my parents are capable of paying it. I am just wondering if NYU is worth the money my parents put in. I am confident that 80k won’t be too hard to make if NYU can prepare me well for the future.

What major?

Who cares? It’s money they don’t have to pay for the same quality education, and I’m not convinced the OP or his parents would see a ROI. If they really don’t mind spending that much on you, maybe you could go to Emory and get a Porsche instead :)

not sure of what major, but I really want to go to a good law school after undergrad at the moment. I heard NYU is great for writing. One of my major dislike about NYU is that it is not the traditional college experience I wanted, but its location makes it up because lots of my relatives live there and my parents want to retire there as well.

I know that NYU has a great Law School but I don’t know if you should go to NYU if you want the traditional college experience.

Save the money for law school. You can do just fine at Emory, and will have a much more college-like experience.

I love bagels: Go to Emory, but take your bagels, they are better in NY, lol!
Good Luck and congrats!

“New York offers so many amazing opportunities where Atlanta is…well the ATL”

And while Emory has an Atlanta address, it’s actually in Druid Hills, a suburban neighborhood and medical complex area about six miles out of downtown. The area is upscale, green and attractive, but it’s not urban and it’s not a college town.

If money is not a consideration for you, then the question is what kind of experience are you seeking? The two schools have very different environments/vibes. Emory is more of a traditional college experience, with students studying on the quad and throwing frisbees, although they also spend a lot of time going out in Atlanta, which is not a slouch of a city. NYU is much more of a nontraditional urban experience. Both schools offer plenty in the way of off campus activities and professional prospects for graduates. Speaking from personal experience, my son chose Emory for undergrad and a more urban experience for afterwards, because he wanted the campus like undergrad expereince that he knew he could not get later.
