Emory ed class of 2013

i'm from suburban dc. have mediocre stats as well, but decent ecs. a little nervous about how expensive emory is :/

it's hard to believe this was me a year ago! im happy to say that im at emory. good luck everyone! when do you find out for edI this year?

hey benny it's all good... Emory's expensive for everyone lol.
comex- thanks! we find out 12/15. cant wait! so how do you like it at Emory?

12/15.
i'm so nervous. haven't been able to sleep at all : (

aw guys relax!
I am a student at Emory and love it so much. But please please please don't stress this much! It's out of your hands now, and you will end up where you are supposed to be. I applied early to another school and I am now so grateful I didn't get in, although at the time I thought it was the end of the world when I got deferred.

Remember that college is what you make of it. Is Emory the best school in the entire universe? Yes. But you will be happy, make friends, and have a good college experience. Try and sleep, eat well, and have a back-up plan if you get deferred or rejected.

Also you may be interested in our new student blogs! For security reasons I won't tell you which is mine, but you can probably figure it out:

I visited Emory this summer and fell in love with it. Also, everyone i've heard that goes there loves it. I am a little bummed that theres no football team, but GT isnt far away

I really want to visit it. That's basically the only thing I haven't done, cause I live in California. Yeah, the absence of a football team is probably the only negative thing but it, but I still feel like the overall campus atmosphere and the community is just right for me.

does opus post the decisions at like 12:00 am dec 15 or early in morning like the sats... anyone know?

im not sure, but I don't think it's right on the dot at 12 am. I really hope it's 12 am eastern time because then I could see it at 9 here.

If you apply to Emory using common app, are the the materials supposed show up on the To Do List on opus?

yes megasupa

i really hope they post it early...but i'm still getting letters asking me to finish my app soo

im not getting those letters. 18 more days!

hey guys, i did not apply ED so don't get too excited but i just have a couple questions if anyone can answer them.
1. for emory scholars, i read on another thread that you find out "in a couple weeks" if you made the first cut and of course in that case, you're automatically into the school. but if you didn't make the cut, apparently your application goes into the regular decision pool. so that means that they already read your application, but they want to compare you to RD people. yes? that might have been slightly confusing; i apologize.
2. recently i've become quite paranoid every time i think about visiting emory. i've heard that they're one of those schools that really cares if you visit them. and okay, i know, you're not going to get accepted just because you visit the school but now i fear that i'm not going to get in because i didn't visit the school :(. i keep telling myself to stop being stupid but seriously what if its true! its just one of those annoying thoughts that dont go away. lol. i'm trying to maintain the attitude that i've done what i can and now i just need to chill. so hm whats the question? idk i guess that was a slight rant. lol

haha okay i am done talking :)
good luck to everyone ! (even though theres nothing you can really do now)

lovepanera: great screen name...unfortunately, I think the Panera right outside emory's campus is closed, but I'll answer your q's:

1) yes, if you don't make Emory Scholars you are considered with the RD pool

2) if you have demonstrated interest in other ways: regional admissions session, ordered a DVD, etc. it does not matter if you don't visit.

IMO what matters most for RD are your demographics (assuming your stats are a match)...Emory uses RD to fill gaps within their class that is already partially formed during ED...therefore, if alot of people from your geographic area, your gender, your ethnicity and yes, your religion are accepted EDI and EDII, it is much more difficult to be accepted RD.

haha thanks. actually the sn means a lot more than just the restaurant but thats where the idea comes from. and thats a problem if panera is closed... i suppose i'll just have to reopen it

okay great so thats another like 20,000 people to worry about

lets assume i very recently heard about the DVD and thus haven't ordered one yet. if i order one now, how am i supposed to show the admissions counsel that i did? should i just email them? i dont want to seem like i'm doing it JUST because i need to "demonstrate interest"...

and thats an interesting point you make with the RD pool. i've never thought of it that way. well hopefully my demographics will be special.

Well, about the demographics part...
I'm in a pretty good school in Kentucky, but I applied as an international student, originally from China.
So how's the admissions going to read my application? compare it with others from my school or those overseas?

lovepanera- don't worry about showing interest now. I really would not notify them that I ordered dvd after i already turned in my app.
scarecrow- depends on your circumstances. How long have you lived in Kentucky (and at that school)?

I've been in Kentucky (and at that school) for a year and half. I spent the first two years of my high school in another state.

Good luck everyone!
I'm doing ED II... so I think I find out around mid Feb... not sure. I hope to see you all at Emory next Fall!! Post your acceptance/rejection when you find out!
