Emory Housing?

My daughter has decided to enroll at Emory! We wanted to ask all of you Emory students what housing options are the best for a freshman? Thanks for any info!

I’m not a student but a parent. My daughter didn’t get into the theme housing she wanted but instead she’s in a regular dorm. Not one of the nice new ones but rather an older one (Harris). She’s in a double and all I can say is that she loves her dorm, her roomate has become her best friend and even though the dorm isn’t right in the middle of campus it’s not far from the action and just happens to be next to the library which is where she does 90% of her studying.

What you’ll find is that your kid will be fine regardless of the dorm she’s in. I don’t know any of my D’s Emory classmates that don’t love the school and the dorm makes no difference in that. Besides, a week after the kids move in all rooms look like a pig stye anyway :)

do I need to have accepted admission to fill out the housing form or can I just do it right away?

Leibow, how does your daughter like Emory?

Also a parent of an Emory Soph. Welcome to the Emory community. I agree with Leibow11. Where ever your child lands, it will be fine. All the freshman dorms are on the main campus. Freshman year, my son ended up in Dobbs which has the smallest rooms…I mean really small. I had heard from FOUR independent sources (different people from different years who had lived in Dobbs) that despite the small room size, or maybe because of it, the students in Dobbs ended up closer than any other dorm. It turned out to be true. My son is now in a fraternity but remains close with many students he met in Dobbs. He loves Emory.

Moving your child into a college dorm is a momentous event in their (and a parent’s) life. But the dorm facilities at Emory are great. My son ended up in one of the ‘worst’ dorms and loved it. With the new freshman dorm set to be completed in fall 2010, the chances that your freshman daughter will be placed in a rather new (or very new) dorm are now overwhelming. Check out the housing site. She can apply to one of the theme housings or let the ‘chips’ fall where they may. I do not think the dorm that she lands in will be the source of problems.
