according to this site and another, emory and berkley have pushed ahead of nortre dame and vandy to be placed at 18th in the annual us news and world report rankings. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=226548

all right! =) now it's right below rice, which makes me feel better about myself cause i really wanted to go to rice but didn't get in. but apparently they're about the same quality anyway. so there, rice. you take it. lol

I hope you realize that ranking is almost 100% a hoax. Wait until Friday.

yeah, i'm not getting my hopes up that this is real but it seemed like it could be probably so who knows. i guess we will just have to wait until the 18th for sure.

I think that emory will be a bit higher than 18 this year.

Though biased as I am, I agree with you, but why do you think that?

I believe they'll be higher than 18 because Emory was supposed to be 16th last year. The only reason they were 20 was because the school misreported the alumni giving rate. Although I don't attend Emory anymore, I believe that the school will only keep rising because that new president, James Wagner, is up to some big things. There's a fire about that man that will only make Emory hotter. Also, look at the Admissions rate, it keeps DRASTICALLY falling every year. With each year that Wagner is president, the admissions applications also keep on rising. Emory's getting pretty hot, so watch out now.

whil i do think that emory will definitly rise this year, but, the 16th place that you are refering to is the spot that emory was supposed to be in alumni giving rate (right after cornell which was 15th for giving rate but actually 13th overall) if they had not messed up in reporting it. to my knowledge they never said where the correction would have placed emory in the overall rankings.

I attended Emory last semester (I go to WashU now), and I'm pretty sure that they were supposed to be 16.

the actual wording in the story by the emory wheel says

"U.S. News placed Emory 73rd in alumni giving. The correct statistic would probably have bumped Emory somewhere near 16th place last year, between Cornell and Columbia universities."

this 16th refers to the giving rate ranking. cornell is ranked overall as 13th and columbia is ranked 9th. putting emory at 16th overall would not place it between these two schools. the 16th is for giving rate not overall. they discuss this in another thread as well. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=184191&highlight=alumni+giving+rate

okay, I see........................

after all of these alleged us news 07 rankings i think there is one that might actually be real (the op has put up a picture of the mag so i think it could be real). and again, emory stands at 18th this time with vandy. who knows but in the end rankings dont really matter too much anyway but it's nice that people are seeing that emory is a top school.

amandi, are you going to emory next year.

i am........

Emory Undergrad Business:
- 2007 USNWR: 13th
- BusinessWeek: 5th

... Very Nice

Great -- Notre Dame, the only college that flat out rejected me, is now surpassed by Emory in the eyes of US News.

Emory simply switched spots with Notre Dame. Vanderbilt stayed the same, as did Rice. The big gainer was UChicago, 15 to 9. Colleges comparable to Emory such as WashU and Northwestern slipped. Boston College and NYU got some much deserved respect with large gains. Overall, the top publics faired poorly -- adding more fuel to the "Privates in 10-20 are better than any top publics" argument.

18th ain't bad. That means Emory is tied for 3rd for southern colleges.

Too bad rankings don't magically mean that one school is necessarily superior to another.

If the pictureof the 2007 mag is not a hoax, it will be the first time in a while that US News hasn't changed the color of the magazine from the previous year. As much as I like this ranking, I can't help but be suspicious.

The picture posted is consistent with the image of the book as posted on US News website. http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/rankindex_brief.php

scroll down to the bottom, you'll see the exact same book as posted in that picture

I agree though, it is still very suspicious. The two pictures don't appear to be exact matches. The number 1 sign on the top left hand corner is yellow in the posted picture but white on usnews.com

Hoax.

Wish it weren't, though.

i'm pretty sure it's not a hoax seeing as the person scanned the pages with the rankings on them. http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k226/calidan87/?action=view¤t=29a53052.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch1

this looks about as real as it could get but i guess no one can say 100% until the 18th.
