@VANDEMORY1342 : The other schools are NOT (Michigan and Madison? Really? Even the Iowa schools are liberal) conservative. Emory would be considered very similar to these places you call “moderate” despite it being called “liberal” by various media sources (some which consider almost anything “liberal”) it is not as liberal as a lot of its Ivy and Ivy Plus friends (just because it is more liberal than VU, Rice, and maybe even Duke does not make it a special level of “liberal” for a college. The south sets a lower bar than most other regions after all). It has traditionally been known to be like somewhat off the center left and comparatively politically apathetic compared to such places. Do not kid yourself. ND is the reason I said “most” and even then, despite its religious affiliation, it isn’t that conservative…
Also, we need to learn how to congratulate these folks without doing the ridiculous act of appealing to ego by saying shallow crap like: “Look they are at least somewhat better than the last class”. They can be congratulated for their excellence without such a comparison. Let us just try to not to get caught up in these “comparative congratulations”…I hate it especially when it involves highlighting extremely small differences. Simply say: “Congratulations, Emory has a lot of great recruits to look forward to”.
Oberlin and Grinnell definitely lean left and I would say are more liberal than Emory which, at least in the Northeast, is regarded as a little more politically
balanced
Is anyone else still waiting on a financial aid award? Daughter was accepted last week, but we still have no word on aid. Will they send email notification, or should she keep checking her portal?
GUYS! HELP! I have not received anything from Emory or Oxford… Just logged onto my portal and it says there is no decision. Also, my financial aid pages have still not been received. Do you guys know if this is affecting my decision? Thanks!
@BiffBrown The subject was “view your admitted student welcome packet!” and the email had an emory heading, not an emory Oxford heading (where I was accepted). The first line of the email was “congratulations again on your acceptance to emory college!”
@collegeplz2018 That’s worth checking into. I agree that email’s somewhat ambiguous particularly given your acceptance to Oxford College. You should call admissions, though it seems unlikely that any university’s already pulling from its wait list. Most applicants have until May 1st to decide.
Just as I suspected, Emory sent out an email this morning apologizing for sending the email last night that made it seem like I was accepted to Emory College… well it was fun while it lasted
