what are similar schools to emory that are easier to get into?? (aka safeties)

(as you can tell from my 938247198324792 emory posts i clearly am in love, but i want to cover all my bases...)

one possibility: tulane?

I applied to Wake Forest as a safety...its kinda similar...maybe...

really? yeah thats another one i'm looking at, and when we were there my dad was like oh this is a safety for you... but then my g-counselor was like oh no wake is just as hard to get into if not more...

im stressed out :(

Um...I dont think Wake is as hard as Emory to get into...My GC had me apply to Wake simply because I needed another safety...

what other schools/safeties did you apply to and what is your favorite?

My only other safety was USC (California...not South Carolina)...and I love that school...I also applied to Duke, Hopkins, Northwestern, Davidson and Vanderbilt (along with Wake and Emory)...My top school is Duke, I loved it.

What other schools did you apply to? (300th POST!!!!!!....wow, thats really sad...)

hahah its ok i have no life thanks to this website..
i acutally havent applied yet since im a junior (which probably makes my whole flipping-out thing even more sad?) but right now im looking at:
emory
wake
vanderbilt
duke (pretty sure i wont get in though)
william&mary
tulane
urichmond

the safeties i looked at last year were lynchburg, college of charleston, roanoke, rhodes, and fairfield. i also looked at u. richmond, vanderbilt, bucknell, colgate, and washington and lee and georgetown bc my sisters went there.
lynchburg is rolling admissions which is nice bc you can hear from a safety early on.

Wake is NOTHING like Emory, at least not from what I've researched. There are probably like 10 kids who aren't white who go there. It's really un-diverse. check out www.studentsreview.com and type in "Wake Forest".

12%!!!! Thats waaay more than 10 kids....HAHA....I know what you mean, it is undiverse...A relative lack of diversity doesnt make it nothing like Emory...anyways, it is just a safety (that I already know I'm not attending...I got into USC, my "top" safety...)

um, emory really isn't that hard to get into with an acceptance rate nearing 40%. so, i guess in that sense, you still need safeties, but not to the extent of some schools, say like yale.

Actually from what I've heard, that 40% acceptance rate is actually misleading b/c they have really high EARLY DECISION acceptance rates... some1 correct me if I'm wrong, but thats what I've been hearing

I dont know for sure...but Emory is typically seen as a safety for Ivies/Duke type of schools...so they probably would have a high ED admit rate...

usc is very similar, as is nyu in terms of academic philosophy, hence both are in the same sports conference. Chic is also in the conference but very difficult to get into. mellon is similar but not as cool. ide say your best bet would be tulane, usc, wake, nyu. really depends on what attracted you to emory. for me it was being near a city so my top 5 were all located either in or in very close proximity to very large cities. emory, nyu, usc, chic, penn.

USC is in the same sports conference as NYU? news to me....

hmm yeah, good advice guys, good point dommenge, the city is key.
and smartaleck you are def right about the early decision thing since people often use emory as an ivy safety (which i def am not)...
and cookiemonster: lynchburg, college of charleston, roanoke, rhodes, and fairfield, good safeties. usc might be a little too far aka my parents might flip out but i do love california.
college of charleston...whats that like?
and where is lynchburg?

dommenge: which USC are you talking about?!?! Cause University of SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (as alluded to in my earlier post) is not in the same athletic conference as NYU...HAHA

when i said "both" i was refering to emory and nyu, not nyu and usc. apologies. my parents felt the same way about the distance, being from new jersey. if i wasnt accepted in to emory and was accepted to usc they would have realized the opportunity that i'de be passing up by not attending. youre the one whose worked you ass off in high school, and if youre not hesitant about the distance then your parents shouldn't make you sacrifice.

lynchburg is in VA, and i have no idea what c of c is like. i only visited rhodes and fairfield of my safeties. but the view book of charleston looked pretty. the one thing i didnt like about it was that housing wasnt guaranteed for freshman.
i also was going to apply to Wofford. (didnt visit) looked absolutely gorgeous in the viewbook. although i guess most schools do...but yeah i really liked what i knew about that school. dont remember where it is...one of the carolinas maybe?
