Emory University / Oxford College Class of 2023 Thread

If I didn’t get selected for any scholars programs or any early admission, does that mean I didn’t get into the school at all?

For everyone wondering Oxford Scholars finalist means, if you indeed go to finalist weekend and receive a scholarship, you will go to Oxford for two years, where your scholarship is eligible.

@emorynavy

On the emory website:
Will other scholarships be given out this year?

"The simple answer to this is “Yes.” As in previous years, Emory University released additional scholarships tonight. While these students were not selected as Scholar Finalists, they were admitted early to the university and received merit scholarship awards.

Additionally, there are many strong, high-achieving students in the applicant pool, and we plan to release a select number of merit awards at Regular Decision (by April 1)."

Do any of y’all know how many people would have gotten early admission? On the website, it says about 250 people got Emory Scholars? I am wondering if a lot of more people got early admission or about the same amount?

@hadi626
Emory doesn’t have EA, if you applied ED, then you should have already received your decision. If you did not, check your portal.

@“sai.1321”
Oh okay, they changed some things since last year because it’s my first time hearing about that . @xviiclassofxix Congrats of the merit scholly. How much did you receive?

^ i am wondering the same thing. Is it wrong of me to assume it’s probably not a good sign if i didn’t receive early admission?

Thanks for figuring that out, @sai.1321. $20,000 per year, @emorynavy. I’ll post my stats to help out future students in a second.

@striving123
No, many will still get in if they didn’t receive a likely, however, I guess it does mean you weren’t a “shoe-in”. The applicant pool gets tougher and there is still merit available.

@emorynavy

How many people do you think get early acceptances? Similar to the amount of who got the scholars?

Anyone willing to share their stats? And whatever news they received, of course. TIA!

Not chosen as a Scholars finalist but admitted with $20,000 renewable merit scholarship and invitation to i4c. Still way more expensive than other options so I guess Emory will have to be a no from me.

Stats for those who care…

1560 SAT
35 ACT
3.97 UW GPA
16 APs including this year, I’ve taken 10 exams so far, 9 (5)s and 1 (4)
SATII: 800 bio-m, 800 math 2
Applied for neuroscience major
Have strong ECs / national recognition for a couple things / competitive internship that was partly hosted by Emory… founded clubs etc etc
Recommendations were quite strong I think

Admitted Regular Decision, found out early, $20,000 per year and Inspire for Change invitee. Not a Scholars Finalist but very happy!

Stats for y’all. Don’t worry as there is always a range of admitted students! You all have different strengths (you’ll see I’m focused in one area).

Decision Plan: Regular

Major: Undecided

OBJECTIVE:
-Unweighted GPA: 3.98 / 4

-Weighted GPA: 4.58 / 5

-That is about half my classes as honors or AP. All As except one B sophomore year.

-6 AP. 14 honors.

-My school does not rank, but I know that I am right around the top 10% of my class of 720.

-ACT: 36 (36, 36, 34, 36) One sitting.

-SAT II: None.

-AP Exams: Junior year was United States History (5), English Language (5) and Music Theory (5). Senior year will be Environmental Science, Psychology and Calculus AB.

-From large public school in a rather well-off community in suburban Midwest. Sends lots of students to top 30 schools and the likes.

EXTRACURRICULARS:
-Top musician in state on my instrument, invited to state music education conference for two years in a row, honors ensembles both times. Played at regionals for three years, upward trend.

-Help out some of my teachers during my free period. I teach underclassmen, and I think I mentioned in my application that I want to go into education.

-Marching band section leader for three years, did marching band for four years, top concert band and orchestra for three years. Pit orchestra for three years.

-Two-time Camp NaNoWriMo winner. Wrote a novel in a month.

-No employment.

HONORS:
-National Honors Society, state commended, Top Scholars at school, AP Scholar, etc.

-Outstanding achievement in Spanish and physics junior year.

LETTERS:
-One letter of recommendation from United States History teacher. Could have been okay, or good, as she’s a strong writer but didn’t know me that well. (7/10)

-Other letter from my Spanish teacher who adored me! (9/10)

-Counselor was vouching for me. She’s also very articulate in her writing. (8/10)

ESSAYS:
-Common App essay was about regional and state music as mentioned above, about learning from mistakes/failure. It sounds a lot like a cliché “sports injury” story, except about dropping my instrument. (8/10)

-Supplements were about Jesus Christ Superstar, the musical, and learning from retrospection as a musician. (9/10 and 8/10)

Good luck to everybody!!

Scholarships don’t include possible financial aid.

Can someone who got the invite post their stats? I doubt they are higher than kiwipanda00 and xviiclassofxix. Since it is a Merit scholarship what really matters is the ACT/SAT score, Unweighted and weighted GPA, and how many AP/Honor classes.

Hi everyone. My daughter just got the email about being a scholar finalist but I really don’t know much about it. Does anyone know how much the scholarship is for, and how many people ultimately receive a scholarship? We are out of state but would love for her to go there.

@Itiznotfare And I imagine the Scholars focus more on the holistic review. Which is fair.

Also, I should mention that many people who were totally qualified will be turned away. Fingers crossed.

Hi Y’all, I was not chosen as a scholar finalist and did not receive the “nice information,” email either. I applied by the November 15th deadline, and did not chose a binding contract, but did not explicitly state it is for regular decision because I applied for the scholars program. Im hoping that this rejection from scholars still puts me in the regular decision applicant pool. Is this correct, or how do I see what decision date I chose. Thanks. @emorynavy @

@hinande I was accepted as Scholar Finalist last year. To actually get the scholarship your daughter has to attend the interview. I’m also from another state but Emory was very generous and paid for all travel expenses. You will get a decision about the scholarship a couple of weeks after the interview. Best of luck!

@xviiclassofxix I also got early admission, the 20k, and i4c! Do you wanna connect before going?
