@posiepetunia Having a sibling makes you a legacy. You should have received a letter to this effect after you applied.
Pretty sure sibling does not mean legacy.
@dkahfdfhk
Yes, sibling does count as legacy at Emory. maybe not at other schools.
http://www.alumni.emory.edu/about/legacy-admission.html
@emorynavy Yes I applied to Oxford. I don’t have fantastic stats so I don’t expect to be super competitive.
I did not. I have 2 siblings at Emory.
Thank you for the information.
Oof I stand corrected @emorynavy
I don’t know anything about siblings, appears it would count as legacy.
@emorynavy : I don’t really care. I just wonder how people know any of this. It seemed like a declarative statement about the overall pool, not like something that “might” have happened or “could” hapoen. I guess they know something we don’t.
Now I’m not so sure whether I regret applying with my questbridge application or not. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow.
Is Oxford relatively less competitive? I honestly didn’t even mean to apply for Oxford. Questbridge just did it automatically.
For comparison sake, Oxford is relatively less competitive than Emory. Not an extraordinary difference though.
Oxford is less competitive than Emory, but since you eventually filter into Emory after your first two years at Oxford, you still get the prestige of the Emory degree
For those of you posting “chance me,” I would highly recommend reading section C of Emory’s common data set. It might help you get a decent idea of your chances. I’m not saying don’t post in here, just trying to give another tool
cause someone bought their way in. Specifically as a recruited athlete to the tennis team. (/sarcasm)
@bernie12 I don’t know that applications are up. That was a guesstimate based on trend.
Siblings count as legacy, which means their applications get a second look. From what I have heard, the weight could be less than parental lineage, but who knows? I have also heard that it the weight is much greater in the ED rounds because part of the draw to bringing in these applicants is the sense that there is a strong affiliation to Emory. Emory wants people who are motivated to be there. Motivation to attend is not the same as demonstrated interest.
Oh, I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw Emory not on the list of schools involved in THE scandal.
Good luck to all applicants today.
@ljberkow : You know them folks ain’t in to D-3 schools. We all know what Ms. Olivia was saying. Emory, Hopkins, Chicago, or WUSTL would not have been the fit for her. “I just enjoy the football games and parties”. As if those can’t be attended as a non-affiliate/student.

Any other interesting Info:
I think i had above average rec letters as well as essay’s but i have not read the recs and alot of the beauty in written work is in the eyes of the beholder…so we’ll see. I wrote about the first prompt about how “2001: A Space Odyssey is my favorite book” and second about how my participation in debate has shaped me as a person.
Im starting to think I made a mistake by not applying ED, I saw a statement released from Emory and Oxford that their joint acceptance rate was 40% out of i believe ~1900 applicants (500 or so got into emory, and 200 to Oxford i think). These numbers are just what i can remember from emory. Bc the ED acceptance rate was so high it seems like RD is going to be real tough…
Also did i make a mistake by submitting those AP scores, I know they are not the greatest but I wanted to adcoms to know i took the tests for the classes and atleast tried.
If anyone wants to chance me, or point out the weaker parts of my application I would love to hear it to kill some time.
Good Luck everyone, im just another nervous individual haha
@CrudeOptimist
don’t worry about your application anymore ~ can’t change anything and you only go through this once
haha thats true, just trying to feel out my chances
