Emory University / Oxford College Class of 2023 Thread

They’re probably going to pull from the waitlist as 30% yield doesn’t get you to 1370.

@emorynavy you look to be correct, at least based on last year’s yield ,which was higher than they expected.

4,512 were admitted to Emory College overall, so 30% of that is only 1,354. That mean they will go to the waitlist this year. They don’t have to yield better from RD than they did last year because they admitted so many more EDs this year. The 30% is realistic and they can control the class size better.

@emorynavy Those numbers include ED1 and 2 so 1/2 of the class will end up with close to 100% yield.

Hi, guys. I am a freshman at Emory (class of 2022) and I hope I can answer some questions. You all are all fantastic students (I’m sure) and will end up at wonderful institutions, whether it be here in Atlanta or elsewhere. I am actually leaving Emroy after this semester, but I still think it’s a fabulous school. I loved Emory when I toured it – absolutely beautiful campus, but I’ve come to realize that I don’t love the people here. That being said it is hard for me to ask my parents to pay $70k (and more) a year for me just “kind of liking it”

Current School: Emory University
From: Asheville, NC
Nationality/ personal: Hispanic, adopted, Jewish, severe ADD
Financial Aid: None (didn’t fill out FAFSA for 2018 or 2019)
College GPA: 2.1(1st semester) 3.8 (2nd semester)
High School GPA: 4.4
ACT: 31
HS: National Honor Society, AP Scholar (gold), NSHSS, studied abroad in Spain, Headmaster’s Scholar, Alumni Council, Angelus Society (youngest in school history)
College Extra Curricular: University Wind Ensemble, University Orchestra, EIPAC Exec Board, Sigma Nu – officer, Emory Interpreters, Hillel.

Good luck to you all! GO EAGLES!

@powerss
Oxford College at Emory University is a much smaller, secluded section of Emory about 40 minutes southeast of Atlanta. Some students prefer Oxford to Atlanta. In reality (from what I’ve heard) the academics are about the same. About 1,000 students (FR and SO). All students know professors pretty well and it’s a tight-knit community.

BUT, at Emory – Oxford has a silent reputation for being a “back door” into Emory. Personally, I do not think this is true, though I am a freshman at the Atlanta campus. I will say, however, that on average Oxford College admissions stats are lower than Emory University stats (GPA, SAT, ACT) so there’s something to be said for that. Hope this helps. Go Eagles!

Does anybody know if there is an Emory 2023 group me?

@wapten There is a 2023 Emory FB group. I would check there.

They are not meaningfully lower. In terms of the matriculated students. Emory only has an 11 point advantage on the SAT and a 0.11 advantage in GPA. To me this isn’t a relevant difference and we don’t even know what GPAs mean as they come from all types of different schools and the like. All we can say is that “generally students at both schools have a high unweighted GPA”. We can say that Oxford is less popular and receives less apps. overall, but that just makes sense. True Liberal Arts Styled educational programs are not but so popular and the Atlanta campus is associated with prestige and of course…Atlanta.

ED acceptance rate at Oxford was actually lower than Emory’s Atlanta campus last year. This year Oxford’s overall admit rate is just 2 % points higher than the Atlanta campus so while Oxford may have once been a backdoor to Emory, that door has pretty much closed. The two campuses offer different experiences - The Oxford campus is much more like a small liberal arts school. This will hold a lot of appeal for some and be of little interest to others.

@bernie12
I’m confused to why you even responded to them. A student who is transferring is giving advice in the freshman admit thread is dubious at best.
@chemmchimney
15 and 19 is a difference of 4, lol.

@emorynavy : I don’t know or care who that is. It is incorrect and outdated to say that…

Hi, any folks have a sense of what ED1 and ED2 acceptance rates are for Emory & Oxford?

Never saw much on ED1 by college, but combined 42.7% of those who applied ED1 were admitted.

@eastcoast101 do you know if track athletes can get a dorm by the track or is housing completely random? i’ve heard that the freshmen dorms are by the quad so does it not matter?

@ryandryu : Emory’s core campus is REALLY small. Being by the quad is also being by the field, and basically all but one frosh dorm is close to the field than parts of the quad slightly distal from it.

@TrifectaRents a guesstimate is that it’s about 24% for ed1 and 2 for Emory College.

@ryandryu Athletes do not get any considerations with regard to housing. My S is in LSM. It hasn’t been a problem.

Saw a post on Instagram of students on an admitted student preview day, why is everyone dressed up?

There is no need to dress up at all for admitted students day. There is some entertainment and those dressing p may have been performing. If you have warm weather, shorts are fine too.

^^ the only admitted students I saw dressed up were the Scholars Finalists
