******EMORY UNIVERSITY RD 2019 thread*****

good luck everyone! One week from the decisions come out!

“Undergraduate Oxford” appeared on D’s financial aid doc list also, noticed it yesterday when talking to FA about a missing doc. She applied to both as well. Hmm.

It could mean accepted to Ox but not Em, could mean accepted to both, could mean denied, could mean nothing at all…

My S just got an acceptance letter and an invitation to Essence of Emory program. I am really happy for him.
Quote from the letter.
“”"We are notifying of your admission early in order to extend an invitation to our Essence of Emory visit program. ***

Definitely thinking about going to the program. He has already went through a similar program for Rice U. Keeping all options open until FA awards.

Just got the early acceptance and invitation to Essence of Emory! Good luck to everyone else!

I got the same invite to Essence of Emory! I’m super excited!

Congrats to all three of you! Did you all find out through snail mail or was there anything on the online portal/your emails?

Has any african american or latino who wasn’t invited to essence of emory been accepted to emory college?

FriendlyNerd888 : The message came by email

Got in today, invited to essence of emory!

Hi.is essence of Emory the same ad scholars weekend? Did anyone hear about that.i believe it begins today.

2 other perhaps silly questions about emory.ive never been there but my son applied.is Emory considered to be Ivy League of the South? Is dress there preppy like east coast Ivys

S received early acceptance and invitation to Essence of Emory.

If I am a minority applicant, and was not invited to Essence of Emory, does this mean that I am definitely going to be rejected when decisions come out next week? Emory has previously paid for me to visit based on my minority status.

@123Monkey‌: For one, most east coast Ivies are not known (or if they are, it isn’t really true) for preppy dressing (perhaps Yale is) though some of them are known to have more “intense” characters than normal. And yes, Vanderbilt, Rice, Emory, and of course Duke are 4 schools considered “southern Ivies”. Of these 4, only Vanderbilt would be considered remotely “preppy” in terms of how students dress and even that has limited truth.

I have family in Atlanta and I love it there, but have never visited campus whats the overall vibe?

@bernie12‌ I thought Duke was considered preppy too, no?

I don’t think not getting invited to Essence of Emory means you’ll get rejected.

@123Monkey – My son’s a freshman. Never dressed preppy here (northern CA). This year he has bought all sorts of what would be considered preppy-type clothes – collared shirts, khakis, etc.

That noted, I think that it’s more reflective of the kids he’s fallen in with, as opposed to being the dominant culture/style of dress.

And BTW, he loves it at Emory.

@AsleepAtTheWheel‌ thanks! We’re from the Midwest and no one has visited Emory. Are you from Atlanta area? My son loves the south and my husband is concerned about safety being an issue with the school located so close to big city of Atlanta. THOUGHTS?

@thanksagain‌ : no, not really…but I suppose the two (Vandy and Duke) will have similar characteristics because of the Greek and sport scene kinda reinforce each other. Without any context, one may figure Emory as preppy because I think we are the only out of the 4 with a UG b-school, so you may see more people dressed up than normal.

When I visited everyone was dressed very well, even though it was a few days before thanksgiving break. Dresses and boots, even slacks and button-downs to class.
