**EMORY UNIVERSITY RD DISCUSSION CLASS OF 2021**

@BiffBrown Thanks for your input. Yes, he was rejected regular decision. I was under the impression that Emory didn’t consider demonstrated interest, but he did visit the Atlanta campus and met with the admission rep who visited his school. He has not visited Oxford or otherwise shown interest in Oxford. I agree with you that any letter of continued interest should be coming from him and not from me. I guess that I just feel that given our family ties with the University, we deserve some insight into their admission decision. I certainly don’t think that he is entitled to go to Emory simply because his parents did. That be said,I feel he was a very qualified applicant regardless of legacy status. We are very disappointed, but he does have other options.

@QMusic is it up now?

Got waitlisted at Emory and accepted to Oxford. This is probably a silly question, but if I accept my spot on Emory’s waitlist I can still attend Oxford if I don’t get in – right?

@siprra You have to pay Oxford a deposit by the stated deadline to reserve your spot in order to keep your spot with Oxford.

If you get admitted off another school’s wait list after you’ve paid Oxford a deposit, you can accept the other school’s offer but you would lose your deposit with Oxford.

The unknown here would be if you pay your deposit to Oxford, does that hurt your chances of being admitted off Emory’s wait list?

@siprra yes, but make sure you keep up with any requirements or deadlines for oxford too until you hear back from emory!

@BiffBrown Yes! I was wondering the same thing. It could help me in the sense that I’ve already made it into Emory’s “system,” meaning that I’ll be at the main campus in due time anyway… So it would just be a shifting of students rather than a completely new admit. But it may also be detrimental because “This student will be at main campus in two years anyway. Why not give the spot to someone new?”

@shhanderson Thank you so much!

@marlin98 Sorry for late reply. If you haven’t seen it yet it should be up now

@QMusic I don’t see it anywhere

@marlin98 It’s on OPUS. If you go to the Main Menu drop down, go to Self Service, and then Campus Finances, you should see something that says Financial Aid. They also sent me an email, so check your email too.

i do not see my financial aid either

Got my Financial Aid Package. Without loans, I need to pay 6k only :slight_smile:

Got FA package. All I can say is thank you !!

Is the financial aid me in opus or is it on the Emory applicants status check?

I don’t see a link to my FA package on OPUS. should there be a link under “financial aid rewards” in like campus finances view financial aid? I don’t have any missing docs so … :confused: ??

I found my FA stuff in OPUS and they emailed me my FA letter. Maybe they’re releasing the information in rounds.

i haven’t received my award either

@karenlovely : I know you feel for your child, but no one said they lack character. They, like all other schools must choose from students, higher, mid-tier, and lower stats with EXTREMELY similar profiles. They aren’t screwing up but simply cannot take them all. Also, even if for that reason, Emory is NOT the only one who uses such a scheme. Schools with SUPER high stats (like, WUSTL and Vanderbilt) also use it. They have no problem yielding students with high stats and it is actually a primary way in which they select (they are definitely more score sensitive than many other schools). When a school gets over 20k apps and has a realistic view of its yield, there is not much you can do.

Here’s the information about FA from the admitted students website

If you applied for need-based financial aid, your award information will be available under the Finances section of your OPUS account 24 hours after the release of your admission decision. If you have missing documentation your award will not be available by this date. Click the To-Do List on the right side of your OPUS page for a list of any pending items. If you have questions about financial aid please contact the Office of Financial Aid directly at finaid@emory.edu or 404-727-6039.

no pending items :confused: so I guess some of us just won’t recieve it within 24h? certainly hope it’s not just me who still hasn’t received FA pack

Mine isn’t up yet either.
