Emory vs. Tulane: Where will I fit best/ be happiest?

I'd pick Emory: better city, better academics.

Lamborghini?????????????

Do you guys realize how ridiculous that is? I remember at Dartmouth I thought one kid was a show-off for having an Audi A4!!

I know one of the Lambo owners bought it himself with money he made off of the business he founded.

I only know of the yellow gallardo, but you may be right.

"Do you guys realize how ridiculous that is?"

apparently not. as long as lamborghinis are bought with the student's own money, we're ok.

Well, if kids are buying a lambo with the money they made, that's ok - as long as they aren't like "look at my lambo, it's so much better than your Honda", I don't have a problem.

I wonder why the Tulane board and their folks are so quiet right now...

I think that all the talk about Emory is great though, since that's the school I needed the most perspective on - and I wasn't sure if I should ditch Tulane for Emory in the next two days :(

Re: Tulane

I'm not sure if it's the best idea to go to a school that is financially struggling and having trouble filling its classes post Katrina.

-We had a Buffett at our school and he didn't drive around in anything nearly as ridiculous....

It just reached a $1 billion endowment- the highest it has ever been. It certainly isn't financially struggling. As to filling classes, I honestly don't know, but I believe their numbers are rising, certainly with the new year.

kk19131, that's because the Buffet kids aren't spoiled and they won't be getting much of anything after their father dies. Almost all of it is going to charity.

I didn't realize Tulane even had that much, but Emory has a $5 billion endowment and a lot more in research grants. It's very important to be at a school that is well funded.

I just got my financial package from Emory, and it looks like I've just been bought out...it's basically Tulane's package plus $15,000 - essentially a full ride/cheaper than a SUNY.

Is Emory's student body diverse enough in personalities that I will find at least a few people that I connect with? - i'm not a cliquey/snobby type person. It makes me a bit sad to have to turn down Tulane especially since the guys on my floor seem so cool on Facebook :(

You have been repeating the same question. Yes, you will be able to find friends. I am willing to wager that Emory's student population is a lot more diverse than Tulane's.

BTW, did you state your major?

You'll be fine, there are cool people everywhere.

Thanks, I needed to hear that bit of reassurance.

I was just really jittery about my next school because of the awful experiences i've had at my old college (Fordham)

Emory won't be like fordham. Its a much more selective school so there are going to be many more cool smart people who don't fit into the cliquey, psuedo friendly stereotype. Just don't get too caught up in the social hierarchy and seek out the coolest friendliest people you can meet.

greg-ster, just out of curiosity, what was so bad about Fordham?

isnt that a no-brainer, emory of course.
