Emory’s financial aid was less than any other school my D got accepted to. I believe that Emory takes into account equity in your home when determining financial aid which is probably the reason. My D is likely going to decline. She is very excited about Scripps at this point. Plus the money is better.
Emory doesn’t include net equity in your primary residence or the value of your 401(k). If you included that amount in your net assets, then you might want to call financial aid and have them take a second look.
In your case, you really have two schools which are as different as night and day (a major co-ed private university in the Southeast vs a tiny all women’s liberal arts college in California) and you either want one of the other. You’d probably be wasting your time as well as that of a financial aid employee by calling. I mainly posted because you may have posted bad information. Emory is very good on need based aid (where other schools are better on the merit side).
@ljberkow That is completely not correct - with the same financial information entered into the net price calculator, Emory is the ONLY school that does not give the same financial aid as the others. When I lower the equity value in my home, the financial aid increases. Also Scripps is a small LA college in a consortium of five colleges which in total is in similar size to Emory. I have not posted bad information.
I apologize. They do take into account equity on your home. I have found Emory to be very generous. Sorry that was not the case for you. While Scripps is part of a consortium, it still is a liberal arts school for women.

Same here for D. She heard this afternoon. She’s going to think seriously about it, but isn’t sure. Wish Covid wasn’t still raging in Georgia. Still great to finally hear.
Good luck everyone!
Congrats to y’all! Do you guys all on that extended waitlist and then got off the waitlist?
Congratulations! Do you plan to attend?
Congratulations! Do you plan to attend?
D is seriously thinking about it. She’s going to connect with someone currently attending to get a better sense of how Emory is dealing with the virus. Any advice from current attendees very much welcome!
I’m planning to attend!
