ENG 100 class (Engineering Orientation) - a question

When DS scheduled his classes back in June, his adviser did not inform him about this mandatory engineering class that he must take for the first 5 weeks. So, it is not on his schedule, but I am assuming they will make him add it in August.

DS is in mechanical engineering, and his ENG 100 section meets M, W, & F at 12:00, 3:00 or 4:00. The problem is that none of those times work with his schedule. We have tried various options, but he will always have a class at 12:00, 3:00 or 4:00.

Here's the question: Will he be allowed to sign up for the ENG 100 class at 3:00, and attend it on Mondays and Fridays, but then attend the 12:00 session on Wednesdays? That seems to be the only way we can fit the class in right now.

He is currently signed up for Chem 202 & 203, Phys 211, (Merit) Math 241, and Italian. It's not the classes themselves that pose the problem, but rather the extensive lab and discussion classes that come along with those classes.

Thanks for any insight anyone can give. We will probably have to email the adviser, but he didn't seem too knowledgeable the first time around.

I believe what you are suggesting for flopping times one day a week is something you can actually get permission to do by the prof or department but ask adviser about it. Also, if I recall correctly, they usually have an orientation session scheduled in the evening like at 6 which one can sign up for in relation to any engineering major as long as you get prof permission (and permission is usually given to those like your son who have scheduling conflicts).

Thanks, drusba. We went on to the course scheduler and see that there is a 6:00 pm class that requires instructor approval. We will pursue that option. Thanks!
