EngComp 3a

What does it mean that a lot of them have enrollment capacity of 0? Will they open up later or no? Also, would I potentially be able to get into a closed one?

Link below:Schedule of Classes: Class Listing

The orientation program reserves sections and enrollment spots for each orientation. They somehow pick the orientation counselors who get to enroll their students into Engcomp 3 and the others just don’t get it. Your orientation counselor will tell you which one you can enroll in.

If you don’t get it in the Fall, you have Winter and Spring of your freshman year to do it. I took it Winter quarter and it was fine as a fourth class.

(Based on my experience.)

Basically at orientation, you give your orientation counselor the CRS number for the session you want to be in. Later the next day, your counselor tells you if you get in it or not. (I didn’t.)

Something that I didn’t think of until it was too late (a friend of mine actually did this) is that enroll in an english class after all the freshmen have signed up for their classes (the last orientation session), because all the english classes with space will be opened up.

(BTW, you don’t really have to get it done your freshmen year if you’re like a science major, since it’s not a prereq for almost any of your classes or anything. Supposedly the check for if you completed your Writing I requirement is done somewhere in Fall of your 2nd year. And even if you get a check, at most you would get a hold and you could just go down to Murphy Hall the same day and get it removed. “Oh, yea, I’m gonna enroll in it.” or “I’m in it right now.” -At least, this is what a counselor told me when I asked them about it. – I actually ended up doing it Spring quarter though because I needed a GPA buffer.)

^ only if it’s a good professor and/or good time slot. I’ve heard that the amount of work and grading scheme for that class is entirely dependent on the professor. Mine was a sweet lady who was really laid back and gave us no assignments other than 2 papers for the quarter. Other people had weekly reading assignments and quizzes.

Oh okay, but what if I’m a second year haha? Since I won’t be going to freshman orientation will I not be able to enroll? Thanks

You would just sign up after the Orientation sessions are over. (Read my post above.)

Though, I think the best course of action may just be call up a counselor. (Probably faster and more convenient.)

I’m actually in the exact same situation as lisalisa313, there are english comp3 classes restricted to sophomores+ only that are also close, does anyone know why? And does anyone know when they might be open? Like lectures 23, 28 and 33 0_0
