No honors invitation. Hmm.

When do we get to know about financial aid /Scholarships?

@TXMom2016 Did you look in the application tracker for honors, it is usually placed there first.

@ppxyz123 Sometimes early scholarships for things like National Merit come out right away but the U will say that financial aid awarding starts in Feb.

So if you’re admitted to honors will you likely receive some type of financial award?

@TXMom2016 For my daughter, the honors showed up later on the tracker. Almost didn’t see it. Was like a one or two sentence notice after the acceptance paragraph. Keep checking. I am hopeful for you guys!

@PrdMomto1 for my daughter, scholarship offers came by snail mail quite a bit after acceptance and honors notification. maybe a month later. Hang in there!

@UMNMom @coffeemomCO Looking at the profiles of students admitted to honors for the CoE, it looks like they only take students who were in the top 1% of their HS graduating class. My son is top 7% in an extremely competitive HS. Seems much more difficult to get into honors from engineering than any other college at the U. Also, the fact that his admissions offer is now two months old indicates (to me) that he won’t get an honors invitation. He did get the maximum national scholarship amount, though, so that’s good!

^TXMom2016 - that is correct about honors at CSE. Basically honors is top 10% of the college of entry. Since everyone admitted is already pretty much top 10% of their school, the honors invitation becomes something like top 1% of HS. (In reality probably not quite top 1% but certainly well under top 5%). They have to split some pretty fine hairs, is my guess, and many with stellar marks aren’t invited, simply because others also had loads of PSEO or other college courses and took AP since sophomore year. By the way, honors invites go out till end of March so there’s still a shot (at least I’m hoping since I believe my son is a viable candidate for CLA honors but he hasn’t been given an invite yet . . . ).

Here’s the Review and Selection Process for Honors (scroll down):

What can you do with the Honors program though? I was accepted to their honors thing, but judging from the information from their website, the honor program doesn’t sound that great and all.

@UMNMom Is there a separate place to check for honors? About when do people find out they are in Honors?

@sushiii - with honors you qualify for honors level courses (including gen. ed. courses) and you complete an honors thesis. You also have the opportunity to do research. It’s basically the equivalent of attending a top-level uni. with other super smart kids. What’s not great about that?

@Youngstudent18 - Honors notification will be on the Tracker first. Followed by a regular-mail letter.

Accepted!!

Sorry if this is off topic, but a question for those of you talking about honors, are honors exclusively stats based? Or are they holistic?
