Engineering Admissions letter...

"Also, if your school has not already done so, you should remind your college counseling office to send in your first-quarter (or equivalent) grades from your senior year, which we require as well..."

i want to cry...will a C+ decrease my chances?? :'(

that's not required for all schools..right?

as far as i know...only CoE...but im so *******ly worried :(:(

Call the admissions office. I did for my daughter and they just want a mid-year grade report for her early admission application.

↑really? but it says they REQUIRE the first-quarter grades. btw does cornell engineering usually do this?

Oh boy. This sort of stinks.

Wow i just got that letter and was about to make a thread on it. I didn't know they required first quarter grades.

Can you tell us what college in the school she applied to?

still panicking reeeally bad...:(

maybe I'm wrong, but I've never seen a college asking for the first quarter grades for an ED applicant.

I don't know if it was automatically asked for last year because my son sent the 1st q grades in. However, It's not that unusual for them to ask for 1st q grades for specific applicants - it means they are on the fence about them. Last year there were threads from ED applicants stating their guidance couns. was asked for 1st q grades.

hmm... I got the letter too. This letter did go out to ALL applicants, right? It didn't just go out for borderline cases, right?

Did you apply to engineering?

yes, I did.

Sucks for you. But you should send the admissions office an email saying that your grade has improved greatly since the first quarter... and make sure to make good on that.

i didn't apply to that school, but i didn't get a letter about first year quarters. so i don't have to send them in, right? Umm i'm really scared right now...

as for Fahood, maybe you can look at it from a different perspective and be glad you're not completely ruled out?

someone please put my worries away and tell me that only engineering people have to send in the first quarter grades.

What!?! I'm "on the fence". Thanks for potentially scaring the c*** out of me and a ton of other applicants. But, I don't believe it was only sent to boderline apps. Look at the wording in the letter:

[quote]
Now that your application has arrived at Cornell, I wanted to touch base with
you and thank you for taking the time to consider Cornell University's College
of Engineering! Some of you may have recently been contacted about missing information
from your application. If so, I wanted to let you know that there is no “penalty”
for sending information to us at this later date, but we do appreciate your efforts
in getting us that information soon. Also, if your school has not already done
so, you should remind your college counseling office to send in your first-quarter
(or equivalent) grades from your senior year, which we require as well. Please
fax them directly to the Engineering Admissions office at 607-255-0971. (Thank
you!)

It definitely seems like it went out to everyone and it says that they were already required, not a request for certain students to do it.

"on the fence." Seriously, that scared the crap out of me. I hope you're right, nameless1.

yes plz don't say it like it's a fact. and "if your school has not already done
so" ←this almost sounds like we were all supposed to know about this beforehand?? did anybody know? and I still don't get how fedmom called and changed this requirement to just midyear report..

No - please reread what I wrote & the other posts. I didn't intend to scare anyone. It seems that the engineering dept sent that letter this year to all applicants. In last year's posts some kids wrote that their guidance counselors were asked about 1st q grades. Being asked doesn't mean you're not in - nor does NOT being asked mean they're not considering.
