Engineering at northwestern

I'm interested at going into engineering. I know northwesterns a great school but I didn't know much specifically about there engineering program. How does it compare to Michigan, Duke, and Marylands

I also wanted to know if I have a shot at getting in… I’m my classes valedictorian and Have impressive extracurriculars. As of now I have sats of math-720 reading-640 English-600. I just took acts for a second time and think il have about a 31. I’m taking sat 2s next week

No one can accurately predict your chance of admission but unless you have a hook your chances are not good. Your M&V SAT is well below the average at NU and few students get admitted with a verbal score that low. In all honesty even your top score the 720 in math is low for a prospective engineering student. On the other hand maybe you can raise your scores which will increase your chances. With the admission rate now around 13% predictions don’t really mean much anyway. If you read this site you will know that ED is your best bet if NU is your top choice.

And as for the original question, Northwestern’s engineering program is one of the top in the country. Duke has a weak engineering school, Maryland is not close to Northwestern, and Michigan’s is probably on par.

Crimsonstayed since you seem to be pretty knowledgeable could you rank the engineering programs at Tufts, JHU, Lehigh, northwestern, UVA, Umd, bucknell, vt, Lafayette, Tulane, Drexel

The only ones I know are good are Northwestern and VT, but I don’t really know about the rest. Those two would be top, and I would assume UVa would be pretty good.

You can easily find different rankings if engineering schools on the web.

I have to agree about those SAT scores - absent a hook, they could prove your undoing at NU, Tufts, Duke, Mich, JHU and UVa. I don’t know much about the others, but I think that Bucknell and Lehigh could prove tough as well.
