Engineering Global Leadership Program

Simple question, how hard is it to get into EGL the fall of your sophomore year? What does it take to get in other than the 3.6 GPA? (and is it hard to get that 3.6!?)

Talked to program coordinators. Seems like they have a ~80% acceptance rate for people who apply.

A 3.6 isn’t that difficult to achieve with engineering pre-reqs your first year if you really want it.

If you aren’t an IOE major, is there any true benefit to EGL? I am currently looking into Michigan and this program interests me. But I want to do CompSci and Computer Engineering, and I wonder about the true benefit of EGL.

What’s IOE, i know i’ve seen it before but i forgot what it is

IOE = Industrial Operations Engineering.

That said, given that most engineers will one day join the industry, the EGL program is great in preparing a student to think like a business engineer regardless of major you wish to pursue. For instance, although some may think computer science is all technology, the process of building/designing any part of a computer (including software) includes the integration of communication, management, and technical skills during the development stage. EGL will prepare the student to face such environment with the technical background, with business skills and if needed, foreign language. If that doesn’t entice you to join, just know that EGL students typically get good internships/job placements and can create great business connections through the tauber institute internship that is required for all students (internships vary from working for Dell, Boeing, or even consulting).

and most people I know who’ve applied got accepted so I guess if you match their prerequisites to apply, you should get in.

How many people are in this program?

yeah, i’d like to know too.
