Engineering Honors

I applied to the School of Engineering EA and got accepted and also offered a Dean's Scholarship. However, I was not invited to join the Honor's Program.
NEU was one of my top choices, but now looking at what other school's I've been accepted to and no Honor's invitation, my view in them is diminishing.
I understand that students are allowed to transfer in, but I've also seen that one of the biggest draws of the Honor's Program is the new housing that students get to live in. Is it worth going to NEU and going through all the hassle of applying to the Honor's College as a student (which requires another application and an interview)?

I know this is a stretch, but is there also a way of appealing this decision?

Stats:
SAT- 2300 (M:800 W: 790 CR:710)
SAT II- Math II: 800 Chem: 800
3.99 UW/ 4.3 W
6 AP
Strong extracurriculars

No way to appeal the decision before you get there but it’s reeeeally not a big deal. You live in separate housing for 1 year but it’s not something that will even come close to a make/break factor- the other dorms are fine, better located in most people’s opinion.

Is it worth going to NEU just to try for the HONORS PROGRAM? Absolutely not. Go if you like the school, don’t if you don’t- nobody will care outside of choosing roommates whether you’re in the Honors program. If you think you got into better schools than no worries, but think about co-op (this is important!)- if that’s the educational model that you’d prefer, NU is a no-brainer. Some people I know applied to NU and had no idea what “co-op” was, or how it related to NU. It’s not for everyone, but give it some thought- should be more important than what fancy words they’ll put on your diploma.

What novafan said.

I know some people actually opted out of honors because it made more sense to them to dorm somewhere else. There’s a kid in my dorm who always hangs out in it but actually has his dorm at IV and walks to the other side of campus daily to hang out in (and often sleep in) our building.

It stinks to not get offered honors when you’re a really strong candidate like that. I can definitely see how it would feel like a let down and them like less if a fit. But honestly, honors shouldn’t be make or break in your decision making on this. There are some perks like nicer housing freshman year, but that’s minor in the scheme of things. Not being in honors would not hold you back from any keep opportunities. And if you’re really determined to get the honors experience, you can join after a semester or year, as you pointed out, if you do well.

I’m totally in line with the others on this: make your decision based on the rest of what you think of northeastern as a fit for you.
