hey everyone im computer science major. ive taken or will have taken all of the required major prep classes (except 1... i cant take it in time). anyways, if i took 4 online classes this summer (all 3 unit classes like art, psychology, etc) ill have completed my igetc.

the way it seems to go for engineering majors is that at a ccc, you take your major prep classes (this is how the colleges evaluate you) and then when you transfer to a uc, you continue to take the rest of your major classes + do your general education there. so if i took these 4 simple online classes to complete my igetc, doesnt this mean that when i transfer, ill have muchless classes to take? basically all i have to take is some major classes, right? when engineering transfers come to a uc they are expected to still have some GE to do, but for me if i have my igetc completed then i guess i would have a lighter load of classes to take at a uc, right?

It is true that the UCs recommend that you do not follow IGETC for engineering majors, but the way you feel is exactly how I thought about it. I figured if I can finish IGETC by doing another few classes and pad my gpa w/ some easy arts/humanities classes why not? It’s true you will be completely done with your GEs when you transfer and you will be more competitive for your non-engineering alternate major if you choose one (your backup if you don’t get accepted to eng. school, although hopefully it won’t come to that).

and btw don’t listen to all the non engineering majors that will tell you the opposite because of what they’ve read. Everyone else I know majoring in engineering like myself also did IGETC, and all thought it was a smarter decision.

ya because i only need 4 more classes for igetc. and the thing is at whatever uc i end up at, i know some classes will not transfer properly, and instead of taking 4 classes to finish my GE’s, i might need 5 or 6. and when im at my uc taking classes i should have no trouble finishing in 2 years or less because the GE is already done :)

also to anyone that has taken 4 online classes at the same time, how was it? ive heard people say that you have to be logged in a certain number of hours and stuff, but in general online classes are very easy, right? or is it completely different
